You're a Man, My Son!

Deer
You came into our life
In such a hurry to be born
We knew not of tomorrow's strife
When you woke us that early morn

Two months sooner than we planned
Son, you sure were in a rush
We placed you in God's hands
Whispering prayers in a hush

God heard our earnest pleas
And blessed us with His grace
Lifting us from our knees
Assuring us of your place

For days we watched over you
As you struggled to stay alive
Thank God you pulled through
"Country boys" know how to survive

Today, you are a man, my son
One we're so glad to claim
Your childhood has been so much fun
Your full potential was always our aim

We're all very proud of you
You've come a long way, son
But there is so much yet to do
You've only just begun

Hold your head up high and proud
While you live, love and learn
Cherish the blessings you're allowed
As your own goodness brings return

On the occasion of my son's twenty-first birthday.
Only God knows how much I love you, our own "true brave heart"!
