Night Bird

Full moon against dark velvet sky
The sparkling stars its companions
Clouds blowing across its illumination
Like the web of thoughts inside my head
Covering my heart, protecting
The wind whispers to me the secret
I feel it caress me, comfort me
I am empty and lifeless, yet it fills me
Swirling around me, in me, lifting me up
Taking me from this lonely, barren place
And sitting me on top of the mountain
I listen to the sound of the night bird
Hear his song, listen to the words he sings
Such pain, so many tears hidden behind the smile
The night bird spreads his wings
Irresistibly I am drawn inside, to enclose myself
Finding solace in the darkness
Into the darkness of the wings of the night bird
I have heard the night bird sing
His song to me, I know I now am his
He has claimed me from my dreams

Morning comes and the bird of the night releases me
Releases me from the dreams from which it has claimed me
The sun shines brightly, smiling its greeting
Warming the rocks on the top of the mountain
I close my eyes and feel its rays on my face
When I open my eyes, the world is spread before me
Awakening to the dawn of expectation
Spread like the soft white wings of a dove
The symbol of love and of peace
With hope shining in its eyes, it looks at me
I stare back, deep into the contemplations
Of a lifetime, seemingly wasted
But the white winged bird of love
Is giving me expectation, but of what ?

Again I hear his song, so different than the dove
Surrounded by his wings, I become his for this night
His feathers brushing away my tears, I cry
And wait, to see if the morning again brings my dove
See if my heart sails in the ship on the ocean of my tears
Or if I fly, on soft outstretched white wings, in love
Or remain always caught between the two

The sunlight awakens me, hitting me full in the face
Startled, I look around me, the night bird is gone
Blinking back sleep, coming out of the world of my dreams
I look around me, seeing the fresh newness of the morning
I hear fluttering beside me, and turn to see the dove
We look into one another eyes for a moment
I realize I am smiling, I feel it until it claims my entire face
The dove moves near me, I feel his wings go around me
Drawing me into him, I am surrounded by his softness
Our eyes are still locked into a mesmerizing stare
My heart is beating madly inside my chest, I feel I will faint
But this cloud of white holds me, supporting me, bringing me nearer
Against my will, I close my eyes, my heart is deafening me
Beating like the loud notes of a song so full of emotion
I feel my own emotions leaking from my face, falling from my eyes
The tears make their way down my cheeks
Making roadways across my skin
I feel something catching them, taking them away, soft and warm
I open my eyes and find myself in the arms of a man
His lips gently kissing away the tears, catching them as they fall
A tear comes down, and redirects itself across my lips
His lips come closer to catch it, and when I feel his lips touch mine
The heavens burst wide open and its bright light blinds me
My heart goes crazy and I hear its song, loud and crystal clear
Its song mingles into one with the dove's, in perfect harmony
I listen to its song, hear the words of my life sung in the sunlight
The power of a kiss, the energy of love, the force of passion
In just this moment, I have been swept from the darkness
Into the fullness of light, into the fullness of love
