"Warriors" (detail) painted in Paris, 1993, 5ft X 8ft

This was going to be my crowning achievement in the world of art: Paris and my first art exhibition in Europe. After moderate "success" in America from west to east coast I was ready to take on a dream of a life time. Paris, SkyHawk has arrived! Yeeha!

I made some outstanding art work I thought to show off the best side of an up and coming artist in Europe, the world. I painted a wide range of art themes relating to the indigenous people. There were included art projects with children and me from Germany brought into the  art exhibition.

Invitations were sent to the four corners of Europe. (Did you hear about George W. Bush? One of the first things he did when he entered the White House  was to go to the Oval Office to look for corners..Excuse me, I'm getting off the subject here. Back to Paris!).

A spread of hors d'oeuvres fit for the general public was set out: chips, pretzels, chopped vegies and bad cheese dip, and cheap beer and even cheaper red and white wine (This is the one reason why I won't mention the gallery by name).

My night in Paris was ready. Hundreds of guests showed up for the little big event. Most were supportive friends. You know? The kind like your parents who tell you every painting is great. If they had to choose one they just couldn't bring themselves to do it.

That seemed to be the attitude of the good folks attending my first art expo in Paris. No one bought one single painting! They did buy reproductions of my art work on post cards. The post cards sold out as a matter of fact.

I would be dishonest if I told you I was not disappointed at the result of my first art expo in Paris; the romantic artistic center of the art world. When the reality muse tapped me on the shoulder, I felt like I was falling backwards down an upgoing escalator But, "success" can be measured in many ways. I didn't exactly feel "Van Goghish" over my not selling any art work. I could say after all those years of studying art/art history and sacrificing, I DID have an art expo in Paris.. Maybe I didn't conquer Paris like I imagined or dreamed about.

Us true warriors come back and fight another day.

Thank you Paris! I'll be back!
