Love Story

Late one night 
Down the highway they drove
The newlyweds kissed 
On their way to the cove

All set for life
After just being wed
No one would guess
The mishap ahead

As they switched over lanes
They were suddenly passed
The driver was drunk 
And travelling quite fast

And then he spun out
As his tire exploded
He lost all control 
Too bad he was loaded

The couple was stunned
And with no time to think
He slammed on the brakes
Before he could blink

The impact hit hard
As the two cars combined
The fragments were strewn 
Through the people confined

Alas they had stopped
With the husband alive
His wife was not dead
Though she would not survive

And taking her hand
As she motioned him near
She whispered her last
“I love you, my dear”
