What ratings do you use?
Because of much confusion over exactly what the American ratings mean, we've made our own ratings specifically for this board.
They are:
GV - for extremely graphic descriptions of violence.
L - for explicit language.
MC - for mature (sexual) content.
Therefore, if you are not old enough to read these stories, then don't. If you're an author and you wouldn't want your child to read your story, then these ratings would apply to you. I understand that everyone has different opinions about what's too explicit, so if you have any questions, or aren't sure of a rating, email the editors at tgeditor@hotmail.com, and we'll answer as soon as possible. We do check our email every day. Or you can leave a message on the Babble Board.

The Gate accepts stories with sexual content, but no porno. If you have any questions about what is acceptable, and what's not, please email us. :)No hate!
Meaning we don't want any stories written with the aim of furthering racism or prejudice against people because of their sexuality, religion, disabilities or the fact that they don't vote for the same party you vote for. Basta!
Here are the two main rules for stories at The Gate:
Is there, apart from the above, any other kind of story that shouldn't be posted at The Gate?
Yes. We like fan fiction, but prefer literary and their movie/TV adaptations. We absolutely refuse fan fiction about real people, unless they are (very) historical. NO N'Sync, NO Britney Spears, and most certainly NO Princess Diana! Also, no manga, please. If you want to post fan fiction, check first if there is a site that deals with your kind of fiction. Fanfiction.net may be the perfect place for your stories.
PLEASE do not post a story that you have archived at another site!
If you want to post a story that is in some way changed, i.e. it has a higher rating than what is allowed at the site you have it archived, you are welcome to post. By this we don't mean an occasional cuss word in the story, or a bit of sexual byplay. If the story is significantly changed, then we will accept it. If not, it is left to the editors' discretion on whether or not the story will be archived.The reasons for this are 1) There are only two editors at The Gate so our time is very limited and 2) We do not wish to compete against other sites and, ultimately 3) because we want new material. This site would be pointless if it was just a copy of all other fan fiction sites.
As much as we the editors love having you visit our site, and sharing your stories, we would like to remind everyone not to post every day.
We ask this for a few reasons 1) so the stories stay on the board longer and 2) again, so we archivers can keep up with them. There are two of us at the moment, but we all have a stuff to do besides The Gate! (Including being harassed about our own stories ;) So please be kind)
Please remember to give credit where credit is due!
If you copy any material/quotes from books, movies, music, etc please make a note of it in your post.
Final words, Gentle Editors?
Sure. We never shut up if we can help it. Basically, if your story takes a turn towards what some people find controversial, justify it! Don't use violence or explicit sex because you don't know where your story is heading! If you can justify your story, we will back you 100%. But making people upset on a whim isn't our idea of a funny and friendly site!...and yes: Use a name and no numbers or silly ID's please!
