Eeyore---not
just another pretty face. (Even spellcheck wants me to rename him Eyesore?)
Much has been
written about the lovable characters of Winnie the Pooh and Friends, but,
somehow the enigma that is called Eeyore tends to be ignored or at the very
worse felt sorry for, but as Eeyore in his own inimitable style would say,
"That's Ok…I don't mind if ya don't understand me."
But all who have felt this
way will someday hear the truth.
Pooh
is such a cute, mellow spirit but if you ever notice, he tends to try to
ignore all that is bad or pretends that it isn't happening to him.
Eventually his sappy ignorance of the real world tends to wear on
your nerves and you wish just once Pooh could sit down and admit he is
bothered by something more important then the lack of honey in his pot.
Tigger
is supposed to represent the joy of life and irrepressible energy but if you
ever notice, most of his friends is either trying to avoid or cleaning up
from some catastrophe that Tigger's unchecked exuberance has caused.
He seems to be oblivious to the fact that Pooh and Co. spend lots of
their time hiding from or complaining about him.
There is a definite selfish aura around Tigger that he uses his
jocularity to distract his friends from finding.
Piglet…ah
yes, he seems harmless enough but have you ever seen anyone overreact more
than him. The poor little
fellow must have incredibly high blood pressure and is probably a good
candidate for heart failure and/or stroke.
(The high amount of cholesterol in the pig meat doesn't help his
problem any.) He is afraid of
his own shadow and any other shadow he comes in contact with…
Just being around him makes you jumpy as a rabbit…
Which brings us to Rabbit
himself! Actually, Rabbit should be given some slack even though he
seems at first glance crabby and unyielding.
If you look closer, you notice that Rabbit tends to end up the brunt
of all the disasters that occur and then his friends(?) just gloss over it
all and tell him he needs to lighten up.
With friends like that…well suffice it to say we would all end up
as crabby under the living conditions poor Rabbit is sounded by.
The other semi minor
characters such as Owl, Kanga and Roo and Christopher
Robin seem to circulate around and just react to the antics created
by the group. Fortunately they
all seem to have lives that don't revolve continuously around Pooh Corner
and therefore interact with the real world quite well.
Which finally brings us to
my favorite character in the Hunderd Acre Woods…Eeyore!
If anyone needs a definition of realist or pragmatist, all one would
have to say is…Eeyore. He
isn't overly excitable, selfish in his needs or overwhelming in his
personality. His simply is! He believes that life is as it is and not to worry if it
doesn't fit his perception of it. He
pretty much expects it not to conform to his own beliefs but that doesn't
stop him from having his own beliefs and sticking to them. He follows the tenants of steady on the course and you will
reach your destination. He
isn't disappointed by the behaviors of his friends because he just doesn't
expect them to be more than they are. What
better way can a friend be…love you and accept you as you are without any
preconceived notions of what you want them to be.
He's steady, dependable and generous to a fault.
Why then is not the little fellow lauded by all…?
Because he just won't let us!
Beautiful...
