I feel my art stems from the fact that I've been an observer of life, people and nature all my life. As a child I drew portraits of all my friends. Later I took collage courses in Fine Art Drawing, Painting, Design, Sculpture and Art History. I also participated in workshops and art classes given by locally known Artists while in Europe. Still, I consider myself a self taught artist. Having visited many of the worlds great museums gave me a chance to study and be awed by the great masters that make up our Art History. Although I work in all media, most of my paintings are done in oil on canvas, however, more and more,I tend to prefer working in Watercolor.
My Favorite ArtistsI have many favorite artists. Beginning with the Italian Renaissance Man, Leonardo da Vinci, to Raphael and his Madonna's, to Michalangelo, the devine painter and scolptor, and Titian, the greatest of all portraitists. Of the Moderns I adore Matisse, Gaugiun, van Gogh, Kandinsky and one can never ignore Picasso.
My Art Tips
As an artist, I never stop learning. My biggest quest is to eek out more time for drawing and painting. I have become very sensitive to colors. Not only do I see them very intensly, but I also try to feel them when I am painting. Getting imotional about shapes, textures and colors in nature, compelles me to transfer that feeling on to the paper or canvas. I want to create more abstract works in the future. Colors speak to the emotions. If one knows how to use colors, one can paint a symphony on canvas, like Kandinsky did. Beauty speaks to an artist: If I see a particularly beautful face, I want to paint a portrait of it.
