Autumn Song
On wings of fragrant heavy breezes,
Autumn rushes through our land,
Sending color-speckled foliage
Spinning,
through the musty air.
Masterful, just like a painter,
He splashes colors artfully,
In bright shades of yellow,
Orange, brown and gold
And magically,
Transforms the world.
“You must give up your pretty dresses”,
In winded whispers autumn speaks,
To the reluctant silver Maple,
The majestic Oak, the Dogwood
And the Honeysuckle bush.
And gaily flutter varied foliage,
Like pulsating butterflies,
Floating, dancing, ever downward,
On golden rays of autumn sun.
And in the leaves he rustles on,
And murmurs low his October Song,
As full of greed, he tears and rips
Those fine adornments from their limbs.
“Your fate is sealed, you can’t hang on,
These autumn leaves, must all come down,
And cover up the musty ground !”
Now robbed of their attire,
In stark silence stand the trees.
Bare and gray, they wait for spring.
And time wings onward towards winter.
