Visual aid for Feb 16th

You say, "It is now 12 o'clock, class shall begin." Graytail points out the A in his name
You say, "Welcome students, to the Beginner's anthro art class."
Yasha-Myr tailwraps kodachi as the lesson starts
You say, "Last week we went over a technique to teach you body proportions for the human figure. By using this, you can start to learn how to draw humans in your own style, and get a grasp of their anatomy."
You say, "In the following weeks, we will be going more over anatomy of the figure and how to construct a good body."
You say, "Before we do so, however, we will do a quick but important comparison you should keep in mind as you learn the basics of human anatomy."
Piccillo returns to his discussion, "The lesson we will go over today will be the hows and whys of anthro anatomy, and how much it differs from the standard human build.
You say, "Now this is a decision you will have to make yourself. How furry do *you* want your pictures to be? "
ShadowWalker nods to Piccillo
Yasha-Myr wants hers as shes furry
Yasha-Myr smiles
kodachi gets a mental image of wingers art and giggles.
You say, "There isn't a 'right' or 'wrong' level of furriness. Even a human with a few whiskers can fit someone's definition of furry."
You say, "I want you all to turn your browsers (or refresh them) to https://www.angelfire.com/art2/baac/ and click on 'Feb 16th visuals'."
You say, "I will give you a moment to study them, then we shall resume."
You say, "Everyone ready to continue?"
Graytail nodnods, finaly getting the page up
You say, "Now, the first set is an interesting model I found in a game magazine. You can see I've built the wireframe for it, getting the basic shape and proportions for the picture."
You say, "Now, the lower two pictures were done to illustrate today's point - how the anthro form can differ from the standard human form."
ShadowWalker is just amazed how *easy* it is, once you see the basics.
Yasha-Myr raises her paw
Piccillo nods,"Yes Yasha?" he asks.
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "I was wondering, the visuals for the other classes, will they be on site as well?"
Piccillo nods, "Yes Yahsa, if you look at last week's log, you'll find a link at the top of the page for the visuals for that week."
You say, "All set, Yasha?"
Yasha-Myr oh goods.."Thank you sempai
Yasha-Myr sits
kodachi busys herself with sketching as she listions.
You say, "When you are constructing a body, you will have to keep in mind two things."
You say, "One - how animal do you want the picture to come out?"
You say, "Take a look at the two pictures I've done, based off the wire frame. The first is an ape, the second a rabbit."
You say, "I chose to make them highly animalistic, to exaggerate my point."
Sslaxx raises a hand.
Dalia smiles to professor Piccillo, "Hiya! I've come for the art lesson."
You say, "Plese turn to https://www.angelfire.com/art2/baac/visual1.html if you wish to follow along."
Yasha-Myr waves to Dalia
Piccillo nods to Sslaxx, "Yes?" he asks.
Sslaxx hisses, "Will we be learning about the differences in body construction between the genders in this lesson?"
Dalia mmms and eats a strawberry and waves to
Yasha and trys not to disrupt the class.
You say, "Not this lesson Sslaxx, that will be covered in the future though."
Sslaxx hisses, "Thank you, Piccillo."
ShadowWalker was wondering what species that first one was :)
You say, "Now for the first picture - the ape - I've given him what I felt were apelike proportions. The arms are very long, the legs shorter, than the human I based the wireframe off of."
You say, "For the rabbit, longer legs and thinner arms are what I decided would be better for the picture."
Yasha-Myr hmmmms attta that
You say, "Hello Rox! Please turn to https://www.angelfire.com/art2/baac/visual1.html to follow along should you wish."
You say, "Each animal has it's own body proportions...you have to decide, when the picture is still in it's 'being built' stage how much you want these to affect the picture."
Yasha-Myr raises her paw...
You say, "Let's take, for a discussion example, a lovely but usually not very anthroed species close to my heart : the skunk."
kodachi says alluringly, "ok how would you make that into.... say a skunk?"
You say, "Yes, Yasha?"
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "So each type of fur has its own 'build'?"
ShadowWalker chuckles at Piccillo
Piccillo chuckles at kodachi.
You say, "Yes, Yasha. We are about to discuss how to figure out that build for yourself."
kodachi giggles. "guess great minds think alike oui?
Piccillo smiles at kodachi.
You say, "Now I'm guilty of doing this myself. When I draw lady skunks, I tend to make them slim and leggy."
Kensan shurgs... and sits down. and is gaked! :') "Hi Yasha"
Kensan nodnods. She is just challanging the corriculuim. Never mind her. :')
You say, "Now, that's fine as far as I'm concerned. I like sexy-looking skunks after all. :)"
ShadowWalker hopes that 'build' is not a Winger build
You say, "But, if you get a nice picture of a real skunk though - you see some differences."
kodachi says alluringly, "skunks tind to have wider hips than most oue?"
You say, "A skunk is a stocky, short-limbed animal. To do a more realsitic skunk, one should make it so in the pic. With shorter limbs, a heavier chest and stomach."
Yasha-Myr looks at herself in her tube dress, and wonders....
Rox mumbles to himself, "But who'd wanna do one of those, and why?"
You say, "They have long narrow muzzles, large digging claws, and are relatively of a plumpish build...or at least their fur makes them look so."
You say, "As to who and why, Rox, well that depends on what the artist likes and what he wants to draw."
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "Id say to learn of the animal basics so we can apply them to the drawings later?"
ShadowWalker hmms "That explains Hardiman's skunks, with their long claws.
Rox goes, "Yah, I understand tha'..."
You say, "It's not neccesary to know all the basics before starting. In fact, I don't want you to. I don't want you to sit out there and be bored while I lecture about the lengths of legs or how far to space apart eyes."
You say, "I want you to get into drawing as quick as possible. Getting your paws dirty with the work is the best way to learn."
You say, "However, I'm pointing out things that you should be aware of as you draw, so you can choose to use them or not as you wish."
You say, "Each and every animal you see can be 'broken down' with basic wireframes just like we learned to use in last week's class."
You say, "Now as I've said I don't think there is any 'wrong' way to draw a picture...it's up to you to decide how you want it to look. How animal you want your animal side to show."
You say, "The second thing to keep in mind is, 'How will my anthro form interact with it's world?'"
ShadowWalker hmms at Piccillo, "interesting. I never thought of that.
You say, "It pains me sometimes, to see artists - skilled artists- make this mistake."
Rox goes, "What mistake...?"
You say, "For example, let's take big fluffy tails shall we?" Rox nods.
Piccillo swishes his own for example. ShadowWalker chuckles
Yasha-Myr wags hers as well
You say, "Nice tail, eh? Big...full bodied..and about 4 feet long."
Telegrand grins.
Sslaxx tailwavies.
ShadowWalker swishes his tail slowly..
You say, "Now think a moment. When I sit in a chair - what exactly do I *DO* with my tail?"
Graytail pays great attention, he loves big tails
ShadowWalker ahhhs, "Good example.
Rox ahs. That mistake.
You say, "It obviously has to go somewhere, doesn't it? It doesn't just vanish."
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "be painfull to sit on it"
Telegrand murmurs, "Or bend it up backwards."
Graytail's seen studies in furgonomics, chairs with split backs for tails, helmets with muzzle guards etc
You say, "So you'd think a furry, sitting in a chair, would have a chair designed to 'have' someone with a tail sit in it. That might mean a slot in the back to slide one's tail into, or even an extension behind the chair to lay it in so I don't have to use my muscles to keep it up."
Piccillo nods to Graytail, "Quite right."
Yasha-Myr thought of usig pins for her tail
Telegrand ponders, "What about wrapping it around and setting it in your lap?"
You say, "Some furries have long wicked claws...how do they type? Or use a fork? A highly anthroed form would hvae to have highly modified surroundings to make him or her comfortable."
Rox can fold his claws into his fingers...
ShadowWalker openly sends to all ~~{ Or quad furs. Or bipedal horses, with hooves instead of paws (that really is a burr under my tail) }
Piccillo nods, "Both great ideas...but it shows you are thinking now of your enviornments, and how it will affect your pictures."
Yasha-Myr hmmms "I wondered of that with other skunks, claws and such
Graytail Says quietly, "Or Taurs, they have a lot of trouble"
Rox sudders. Taurs.
ShadowWalker nods to Graytail, "doors, floors, beds Graytail Says quietly, "Clothing..."
You say, "Now we have a lot to think about...which brings us to today's homework assignment."
Graytail perks his ears up for the homework assignment
You say, "Now, the homwork will be in two parts."
Bree purrs, "I rember seeing a picture of a horse that could type on a custom typewriter. The horse made predictions, one of the was that roosevelt would win the election. It would be interesting to see that photo again, but I know I won't find it."
ShadowWalker hmms at Bree, "I've seen that.
You say, "First, I want you to get some pictures of your favorite animal. Study it, and try to find out how it's proportions and build would apply to an anthro form."
Bree purrs, "you know where a picture is?"
You say, "Would it have longer or thicker legs, a slender but long body?"
Rox mumbles to himself, "Quite thin overall..."
ShadowWalker can supply equine photos if anyone desires
You say, "Take a wireframe of a picture, and apply the proportions of the animal to it. Go for a very 'animal' look with the picture."
Graytail'd like fox, rabbit, skunk and Cacomistle
ShadowWalker can also send a list of animal pics he has too. Upon request
Piccillo taps his ruler on the desk for attention.
You say, "The second part doesn't require drawing, but thinking."
You say, "I want you to think about some everyday objects I will list, and how they must be changed to fit various furry styles."
ShadowWalker listens
Yasha-Myr hmms
You say, "One - pants. Almost every fur has a tail...but how do they get it out of their pants? You can't comfortably just 'push' it through a small hole. How does it fasten for a comfortable fit?"
Rox looks at his pants...
ShadowWalker shutters thinking of zippers...
Rox erks at Shad.
Yasha-Myr looks atta her dress
ShadowWalker grins at Rox
You say, "Two - shirts. How does someone with wings put on a shirt? Or spikes, like a hedgehog - which would prevent using fabric in the back?"
You say, "Three - a chair. We've gone over it, so now it's time to design one your furry cn use."
Yasha-Myr seen a great example of that if she can reply... raises her paw
You say, "Yes Yasha, feel free."
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "I seen a female bat wearing a shirt that fastened and tied in back, just a flap.. a hardiman bat...."
Piccillo nods, "I wear a similar style myself, actually ;)"
ShadowWalker thinks, and remembers some Revar pics, yasha. You'll have to ask her where they are though.
You say, "Now, those are your homework assignments. "
ShadowWalker nods to Piccillo, and raises a wing
Yasha-Myr wonders... Revar?
You say, "You don't have to send me the art if you don't want to - but I *do* want to hear your ideas on the various objects I've discussed, and any others you feel you'd like to change. "
Rox goes, "Revar, yup."
You say, "Yes, ShadowWalker?"
ShadowWalker openly sends to all ~~{ Furrymuck's creator, Yasha }
ShadowWalker waves a wing, "Never mind, you answered my Q, Piccillo :)
ShadowWalker openly sends to all ~~{ She's a bipedal vampire bat, with wings on her arms. That poses some unique clothing }
Piccillo nods and smiles, "You don't have to if you don't feel comfortable doing so, but I'd like your input as to how you think these things should be affected."
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "like furniture. clothing and such?"
You say, "It's important to start thinking of these things now, as it will affect how your drawing evolved later on."
You say, "Evolves, even :)"
You say, "Now, does anyone have any questions?"
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "do we try and draw them or just think??"
Sslaxx hisses, "Piccillo, how do you feel your artwork reflects what you've just taught us?"
Rox mumbles, "Good one, Sslaxx!"
Piccillo sighs, "That's a very tricky question. I'll try to be as honest as possible with my answer."
You say, "I'ts always been a sticking point with me that artists don't teach their students to draw. They teach their students to draw like *they* do. It's unintentional for the most part...but it also makes for a 'homogenization' of style...everyone drawing the same way."
Rox nodnods.
Telegrand chuckles thinking of and older 'The Changing Workplace' ep.
Yasha-Myr hmmms....
You say, "Being self-taught, I mostly developed a style of my own...but I'm aware it's very possible to contaminate my students with my own work and techniques if I'm not careful."
Yasha-Myr subtitles... "Good answer... but you are doing good tho"
Sslaxx hisses, "On a similar note, how much do you feel or hope you'll learn yourself from what you'll teach us and how?"
You say, "That's why I'm focusing so much on using live models, and showing you how to build off them - rather than telling you how to draw body proportions and such."
Rox mumbles, "Ay. One should be taught how to draw, not how to draw like _someone_..."
Telegrand murmurs, "Deranged Kitsune turned everyone in the office to 'taurs, which was fine in the office, but made it impossible for them to get in their cars after work."
You say, "Once you have a good foundation to learn from though, you can start spreading out and learning from others. I do it myself, but keep my own sense of uniqueness becuase I've gotten a good beginning."
Bree purrs, "It would be interesting to collect pictures of animals and how they use tools in rl, and what changes are made to a furs environment in pop culture tv and movies for them."
Piccillo gets to Sslaxx's question, "Another good one. Well, I do learn a lot actually. Actually voicing these things out helps me focus on them more.
Telegrand nods.
You say, "I'm guilty of taking things for granted, just like everyone else ;)"
