You say, "Well, it is now 12 o'clock, time for class to start."
You say, "Now, for those new to the class our home page is at https://www.angelfire.com/art2/baac/ ...old logs of the class may be found there."
You say, "Now, last class one of our projects was to redesign some everyday objects to suit the needs of anthromorphs, to get you thinking about how everyday objects would be designed to accomodate those with fur claws and wings amongs other things."
Sherri has connected.
Yasha-Myr hugs Sherri
You say, "Today will be a bit different as far as class goes...as I'm going to let the class be the teacher's for a while."
Yasha-Myr ears perk a bit
Piccillo grins and continues. "I'll ask for volunteers to come up, and discuss how they felt things like chairs and clothes should be redesigned for various morphs. You will have to talk about why you felt these things should be designed. Also remember - the object of most companies is to mass-produce...so they should be made to fit a variety of subjects.
Yasha-Myr has one
Yasha-Myr raises her paw
You say, "After you finish your discussion on the object, you will be open to questions from the group. In order for someone in the class to ask a question, they will page or whisper to me and I will announce the question on their behalf. In effect, I'll be acting as moderator for whomever is up here."
You say, "Hello Sslaxx. :) Please take a seat, we just began."
Yasha-Myr hugs Sslaxx
You say, "Yes, Yasha-Myr?"
Yasha-Myr stands and shows designes for wider cups and glasses
Sslaxx hisses, "Hi, all, and especially you Yasha, Shadow, Sherri and Picc."
Piccillo smiles at Yahsa-Myr, "Not quite yet, but your enthusiasm is appreciated. :)"
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "I was working on cup ideas for different muzzle sizes"
Yasha-Myr ohs and sorrys
ShadowWalker chuckles
Yasha-Myr sits again
Graytail has arrived.
You say, "Hello Rox. Please have a seat, we just started. And hello Graytail."
You say, "Now I know most people aren't comfortable with getting up in front of people to show their ideas. But as an artist you will have to learn how to be a performer of sorts. Your paper and pen are the stage, and your figures the actors. When you post a picture, you put a bit of yourself on display. Part of this class' lesson is to get you a bit used to presenting yourself in front of your peers...and showing you it's not a horrible thing."
ShadowWalker smiles
Yasha-Myr takes notes
You say, "Since it can be a difficult step, I've decided to give everyone a bit of ecouragement to take the first few flaps that gets them started out of the nest."
You say, "Anyone who volunteers to come up and talk about their designs with the class, will be able to suggest a subject that will be covered in an upcoming class. We'll spend some time each class going over what he or she would like done in the class."
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "h.. hai... well I did have to train in front of others... "
You say, "So if you wanted to learn how to draw furry-based mecha, or jump right away to how to show the differences between males and females or do a certain species, this is your chance to get that subject adressed *soon* and not have to wait until I bring it up in class."
Rox ponders...
Piccillo settles back against his desk. "Now, if this is acceptable to you all, we shall get started. Anyone have any questions before we do?"
ShadowWalker can't think of any at the moment.
Yasha-Myr not really
Graytail shakes his head
Piccillo says, "Okay, let's get started then! Do we have any volunteers?" he stage-whispers to Yasha-Myr, "Now's the time to get up and show your things."
Yasha-Myr only has a few ideas...
Yasha-Myr gets up... her long tail swaying a bit as she stands
Piccillo nods, "Please begin Yasha. Remember, direct all questions to me in a whisper and I will ask them class."
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "I was thinking during dinner, and realised all the differences in muzzles each of us have"
Rox aahs.
Yasha-Myr puls out a smpling of cups with wider mouths, and elongated ends
ShadowWalker peers at Yasha's cups. "Interesting
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "Since some has wide muzzles.. theres the chance to spill drinks... how would each of you try to drink from like a bottle of tea if I poured?"
Yasha-Myr pours the tea into a bottle, narrow mouth and passes it to each of you, including Piccillo
ShadowWalker looks down at the cup, "Ok, who gave the horse the thimble?" he chuckles.
Piccillo holds his tea and listens.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "If anyone has ideas like that... im open"
Yasha-Myr peers atta Shadow.. "Exactly... you might need the drink to save your life..
ShadowWalker nods to Yasha, "Correct.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "if it were an illixer or such"
You say, "Well, we now have something to think about. What solutions have you come up with?""
Ipako nods a bit, listening
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "I have wondered of that.. and came with this.... "
Yasha-Myr pulls out a rubber flimsy u shaped funnell, with a snap tight end for bottles to cups
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "you slip one end into your muzzle to drink, and the other end is tight on the cup"
Rox mumbles, "Cool..."
ShadowWalker openly sends to all ~~{ Very unique. }
Rox goes, "Ay."
ShadowWalker makes notes and quick sketch of the funnel
Kamida hugs you! You hold the object of your affections happily.
Yasha-Myr hoopes that sounded good.. and to pour Shadoww her tea... offers him to drink with the boot
ShadowWalker nuzzles Kamida, "Good morning little lady.
You say, "...Please go on, Yasha."
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "Give my tea a sip Shadow-san?"
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "the flexible part of the funnell fits any muzzle, and is snug"
ShadowWalker openly sends to all ~~{ I would like the recipe after class, " he says as he takes another sip, using her funnel. }
Yasha-Myr puts the cups to one side... and pulls out a set of small glasses... "These glasses are for later
Yasha-Myr places them on her muzzle to watch everyone... sunglasses
ShadowWalker tilts his head, as he watches.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "Is that all Piccillo?"
You say, "Please go on about the glasses, Yasha."
Yasha-Myr points to her green eyes and muzzle... "Being a skunk, I have a short narrow muzzle, and close eyes....
Kamida noddles, wedge shaped head.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "the glasses were made to fit my shape.. nw if I again use Shadow as a test... Ill give him my glases to try on"
Yasha-Myr hands her glasses to Shadow to try on
ShadowWalker smiles and holds his head out...
Yasha-Myr places the glasses close to his eyes, but then they tip and lay flat
ShadowWalker chuckles as he quickly grabs the glasses to keep from falling to the floor. "Yes, you have a point.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "is head.. not to be insulting... is far too large for my glasses"
ShadowWalker smiles and bows his head, "No insult taken.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "How do we fix that?"
Yasha-Myr grabs a mallot to flatten Shadows head...
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "Like this?"
Rox shakes his head. "Rather not."
ShadowWalker grins, "Oh no!! I'm a dick tracy character!
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "or do we change the glasses?"
Kamida eeps and gets the advil and an airpump readdy.
ShadowWalker chuckle at Kamida.
Yasha-Myr pulls out a second set, fastened by a cord, and sliding lenses
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "now these might be better..."
Rox places his feet on the bench in front him and watches.
Yasha-Myr wraps the glasses around his head
Ipako jots down a few notes in her sketchpad.
ShadowWalker blinks, as he tries to look though them.."The do fit though.
Yasha-Myr stands back to show Shadow wearring the specks
ShadowWalker smiles to the class...even though he can't see his paw in front of his muzzle.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "questions?"
You say, "Any questions? Please whisper them to me, and I will moderate them."
Yasha-Myr places her paws inside her sleevves attentively
You say, "It seems there are no questions from the class. Thank you Yasha-Myr, you may step down now if you have nothing else to add."
ShadowWalker takes off the glasses, and looks at them appraisingly, before handing them back to the lady.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "I dont... "
Yasha-Myr gives Shadow a nuzzle.. "You can keep them and the recipe Shadow...
ShadowWalker smiles and blushes, "Danke.
Piccillo says to Yasha-Myr, "Then please have a seat, and thank you for sharing your ideas to us." he then turns to the class and says. "Do we have another volunteer from the class?"
Yasha-Myr keeps the cups for the class to study
ShadowWalker raises a paw
You say, "Yes, ShadowWalker. Would you like to be next?"
ShadowWalker purrs "PLease
You say, "Then step up and begin ShadowWalker. The floor is yours. :)"
ShadowWalker smiles as he walks up, holding a small box
Yasha-Myr hugs Graytail
ShadowWalker purrs "Since I'm only one of two hooved furs here, I thought of something rather unique to us. " He smiles to Ipako
Yasha-Myr watches intentively
Ipako smiles back
ShadowWalker brings out something leather, and puts it on the desk. "anyway, my solution was these. " he points to the objects. "Specially designed boots. They have a velcro strapping at the top to go around the leg
Ipako smiles and looks at them.
Yasha-Myr hands Shadow her laptop with a cable con
ShadowWalker purrs "The bottoms are a rough, but tough rubber tread.
Rox puts his legs down from his bench and leans forward to see better...
ShadowWalker smiles to Yasha, "Danke :) I need it.
Yasha-Myr headtilts
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "ohhh I wondered of that"
ShadowWalker turns one shoe over, "As you can see, the treads point 'back' to give even better traction.
ShadowWalker OOC (I have shoes with that same sort of tread)
Ipako gently replys, "Nice.."
Rox mumbles, "Neat."
ShadowWalker smiles and nods
Yasha-Myr oohhhs and ahhhs
Rox snickers.
ShadowWalker chuckles at yasha
Piccillo nods and listens.
ShadowWalker hands the shoes to Ipako, "Please pass them around.
Piccillo taps his ruler on the desk, "Please whisper questions to me, Yasha. But now that it's voiced, it may as well be answered."
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "err I thought I had whispered it to you"
Ipako examines them for a moment before handing them over to Rox.
ShadowWalker tilts his head, "I must ... Aye, I was wondering Yasha.
Piccillo dohs! "My applogoies, you did." and blushes!
Rox examines them closely... "Nifty...!"
ShadowWalker chuckles at Piccillo
Rox passes em over to Sslaxx.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "MAy I see them please?"
You say, "what does he mean by pointing back, the treads..?""
Sslaxx looks at them, inspecting them, then hands them to Yasha..
ShadowWalker purrs "That I had the most difficulty in describing...one sec.
ShadowWalker tilts his head, thinking...
Yasha-Myr takes a close look. working her paw over the treads....
Graytail assumes the treads are V shaped with the point toward the front? That what you mean?
ShadowWalker purrs "Ok...think of a triangle. With 1 side at a 90 degree angle (up and down) then the diaganol end goes toward the front of the shoe. You then have dozens of those on the tread.
ShadowWalker purrs "Almost graytail :)
ShadowWalker purrs "try this: |/
Rox goes, "Ah yeah. Like tha'..."
ShadowWalker nods to Rox.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "oh I see"
ShadowWalker purrs "I find those are best for walking in snow, even gentle slopes are possible to go up with those.
ShadowWalker ought to patent his boots now
Rox hehs.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "Are they adjustable for different sizes? I met a microfillie yesterday, barely 3 foot tall"
You say, " So they are more of foul-weather gear than casual wear."
Yasha-Myr facepaws.."Im sorry
ShadowWalker purrs "That would be the challenge, Yasha. But yes, they are to a point. The velcro strap can be adjusted for many sizes. Of course, not *all* but they can manufacture several sizes.
Piccillo smiles softly at Yasha-Myr, "Well, I'll forgive yours if you forgive me missing the whispered one earlier. :)"
Ipako whispers, "What about cloven hooves?" to you.
Yasha-Myr replies softly, "Now why would I say no forgive? heehee of course..."
ShadowWalker nods to Piccillo, "Exactly. Snow, ice, and mud. It's designed for traction only. Most hooved furs don't need boots except in those times. Unless it's a fashion statement.
ShadowWalker chuckles at Pic, and Yasha.
You say, " ok are they for different sizes?"
You say, " What about cloven hooves?"
Rox mumbles, "Good question..."
Yasha-Myr oooo good q
ShadowWalker nods to Yasha, "Exactly. Not a pure '1 fits all' but I'm sure that they won't need to make a huge number of sizes. The holding strap, and I can see how we can make them even more adjustable, with additional straps. " He scribbles down notes for that..
ShadowWalker nods to Ipako, "Yes, I'm sure the fully adjustable ones I just mention can take care of them easly. Just making them a bit wider
Piccillo points Rox to the wastebin next to the teacher's desk.
Yasha-Myr gets a tissue and olds her paw for Rox
Rox aahs.
Ipako smiles and nods
ShadowWalker smiles to Ipako
ShadowWalker mentions that Ipako brought up a good question, for the doe in his story is cloven hooved.
You say, " Perhaps a 'rubber wedge' that could fit cloven hooves in that size might be included with each pair? If that was comfortable."
Yasha-Myr wooo
Rox puts his skateboard in his lap and rests his arms on it while listening...
ShadowWalker hmms "That's what I was thinking myself, Pic. I'd have to ask Ipako to test :)
Ipako gently replys, "I'd be glad to help"
You say, "Do we have any other volunteers who'd like to step up and share their ideas?"
Yasha-Myr nods
You say, "Well, as it seems we do not have any more volunteers I will discuss a few other things to keep in mind as you think about how the wourld will differ for furries."
ShadowWalker nods as he listens
You say, "First off, is the source of the object that is being made."
You say, "Let's take Graytail as an example."
Graytail perks up his ears
Graytail Says quietly, "me?"
ShadowWalker chuckles
Rox nods slowly.
You say, "Now, if Graytail made himself a shirt (assuming he could make one) he's obviously make the best shirt he could for him. It'd fit his form nicely...and more to the point, it's be proportioned to his build and species. Sleees to the right length for him, collar wide enough to accomodate any neck ruff. Chest length to specs."
Rox peers down at his own shirt...
You say, "However, let's say Graytail can't make a shirt for himself. Obviously he'd do what most of us do - go out to the store to buy one."
Ipako nods a bit
ShadowWalker looks at Graytail
Rox would be proud if he'd done this shirt himself.
You say, "Now, a commerically made shirt would be made differently. There obviously won't be a store out there called 'For Graytail Only' which makes shirts just to his specifications. A company is about making money, and the more units they can sell the more profit they make. Therefore, making a standard design that fits as many customers as possible is obviously an advantage."
You say, "So given the various species one could encounter, how does one design a 'Uni-species' set of clothing? First off, zippers would be right out. I imagine getting fur caught in zippers is a rather unpleasant experience."
ShadowWalker raises a paw
Shanya would imagine velcro would be useful?
ShadowWalker thinks Velcro would be mandatory
Rox ponders...
You say, "But there is more to it than comfort. What about various lengths? If a company could make a shirt that adjusts to a degree for arm lenght, they can sell more units to their base - therefore more profit.."
You say, "Velcro yes, or buttons up the sleeve to pin the cuff. And the back of the shirt might have some buttons to allow it to adjust to differnt spans of chest, and still fit snugly and pleasingly."
Bree Has never seen a shirt with adjustiable arm lengths and wonders how it could be done.
Rox goes, "It can be done..."
You say, "The standard 'off the rack' furry shirt might look quite different than the 'human' style shirt. In fact, it would be more accepted."
Shanya chuckles... "We might all have to wear Spandex to make that work. :)"
Ipako ponders
ShadowWalker also adds, a short sleaved shirt, with extra lenghs of sleeves, which are velcroed on, but done in a fashionally pleasing way.
Rox nodnods.
You say, "What about wings? Good question Ipako."
ShadowWalker grins at Shanya, "Mmm, that would lead to wrecks at times when well built female or male walked down the street.
You say, "There of course would be 'specialty niches' in the market. Wings, spikes, backplates for dinosaur morphs."
Shanya hmms...
Piccillo nods, "True ShadowWalker, not everyone is build for spandex.
Rox is glad he has his human clothes... And his scissors.
ShadowWalker chuckles and nods
You say, "Let's take wings, as I know how I solve my own problem."
ShadowWalker purrs "Or might I add, ones who have membrains between their arms: Sugargliders, bats..
Rox goes, "Ay."
ShadowWalker gives the stage back to Piccillo, and quiets down.
Kamida lilts, "i think furry clothing would be much lighter then human clothing, furs do not ear clothing for the same reasons as humans, we have our fur afterall."
Piccillo ruffles his own wings a bit and continues, "My vest and shirt have buttons along the back, under the wing base. These are fastened underneath my wings giving ample ventroom for them to move. When I want to take them off, I unbutton them in the back (as well as the front, if it's a dress shirt) and slide them off over my shoulders.
Piccillo nods to Kamida. "Good point."
Ipako thinks it's a lot of work for style.
You say, "Another point is chairs. If a company makes chairs, it obviously wants to sell as many of the same type without changing their design - to maximise profit. How would a chair differ from the standard 'human' model?"
ShadowWalker nods to Ipako, "Thankfully dress uniforms arn't needed always in Starfleet.
Kamida lilts, "epening for the tail."
Sslaxx nods, he'd been working on a piece about that Kamida.
Ipako gently replys, "Longer for 'taurs."
ShadowWalker purrs "Defainately. Say two bars to hold up the back, leaving a large opening.
Shanya has connected.
Sslaxx had hoped it'd be ready for today. Ah well.
Rox goes, "...When does 'taurs need chairs...?"
You say, "They would have to be adjustable to accomodate various body lengths...a large variety. And some consideration would have to be made for a tail. An opening at least, and the better models might have something to rest it on so it just doesn't hang there all day and cause back strin."
Shanya says, "Rox: When they're tired of being on their feet?"
Kamida lilts, "more heavy too, well, try to imagine an antromorphic elephant sitting on a chair for a skunk. :)"
Ipako gently replys, "The ground get's cold sometime"
Shanya says, "Although chouches are likely better."
Piccillo taps his ruler on his desk, "Settle down a bit, class." he says.
Rox goes, "Well, I mean, they... I don't think they could get comfortable on chairs..."
Rox goes, "Unless 'twas some chair/bed hybrid."
Ipako smiles a bit, "chaise lounge"
You say, "While it's getting a bit noisy, I do like what I hear. :) There's a lot in the world we take for granted when we draw, write, or otherwise create. And it shouldn't be. We are different types of creatures, and the world around us should reflect that. Especially our homes, which would reflect our personl tastes and desires."
Bree purrs, "Tail are often rather fluffy, If there was just space left for a tail, a hole or an opening some tails would still be fluffier than that. I propose having the back of the chair held on only by support, and leaving the other side open This would give more space for the tail without having to push it through an opening."
Rox goes, "Exactly how I was thinking.
Shanya hmms. She remembers she had to re-design pants to make sure enough undertail was exposed for a skunk to spray well without being indecent or falling off the skunk's tush.
Rox peers down at the chair he's sitting on and finds that he has his tail hanging down on the right side of it...
Kamida giggles, a skunk only spray's when in danger, and at that moment you do not really think bout indecent. :)
You say, "Well, I will dismiss class as of now so we can get rid of formal rules and just chatter out ideas. So let's get spammy :)"
