The Red Hot Chili Peppers came out with their first album titled “The Red Hot Chili Peppers” in 1984. At this point, the band lineup was Anthony Kiedis, Michael “Flea” Balzary, Hillel Slovak, and Jack Irons. The best song on this album was definitely “True Men Don’t Kill Coyotes”, which is the only song from the first album I included on the CD I burned of my favorite RHCP songs. In ‘85, “Freaky Styley” was released, which was produced by George Clinton. My favorites on this album are “Jungle Man”, “Hollywood”, and “If You Want Me to Stay”, though “Catholic School Girls Rule” and “Freaky Styley” are also good ones. They came out with “The Uplift Mofo Party Plan” in 1987. There’s “Fight Like a Brave”, “Me & My Friends”, “Backwoods”, “Behind The Sun”, “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, and the 8th song that apparently has no name except for “Special Secret Song Inside”. Yeah, a very nice album that showed how they were slowly developing into a great band.

The Chili Peppers 4th album in 1989, “Mother’s Milk”, was the first one without the extremely talented guitarist Hillel Slovak, who past away from a drug overdose, and drummer Jack Irons. With this album, it’s better to ask which songs I’m not to fond of, particularly “Subway to Venus”, “Punk Rock Classic”, and “Sexy Mexican Maid”. It’s a fabulous album which was followed up by their best album to this date, “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”. I LOVE this album, it has a wonderful range of songs. There’s the serious “Under the Bridge” balanced by the “get up and jump” beats in “If You Have to Ask”. The bitter love stories in “Breaking the Girl” and “I Could Have Lied” versus the sexual, sensual lyrics in “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” and “Sir Psycho Sexy” and… well…a lot of the songs are sexual (which is probably one of the reasons why so many women find Anthony attractive). Just a wonderful album.

John left the band during the tour for BSSM. They did release some compilation albums, like “What Hits!?” and “Out in LA”, but nothing new until ‘95, if you can call that an album. “One Hot Minute” was the only record with Dave Navarro, or Dave the Devil as I call him. Dave, formerly of Jane’s Addiction, took John’s place and was the reason behind this horrible album. The band said in many interviews how it took a while for them to get used to Dave way of playing. Sure they did, they went from having a good guitarist to having a sucky one. Anyway, the only song off OHM that I like, and the only song they still perform, is “Pea”. It’s a very funny song and Flea sounds so cute singing it.

It took the band 4 years to recover from OHM, during which time they again released compilation records, including, my favorite compilation album they have ever released, “Under the Covers”. It speaks for itself, a record of songs the peppers have covered, a couple of them from live performances. I especially like John’s rendition of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” and the band’s version of Hendrix’s “Castles Made of Sand”. In 1999, they regrouped after a few bad years, John came back (thank god), and they came out with “Californication”. I like all the songs on this album, “Around the World”, “Otherside”, “I Like Dirt”. They’re great, and TEN THOUSAND times better than OHM.

“By the Way” is a decent record as well. I like all of the songs except “Cabron” and “The Zephyr Song”. So, it’s a good album, all the guys are great, and I’m just waiting for them to tour the US already! Oh, and LISTEN TO THE PEPPERS!!!!! Thank you for you time.
