Guidelines for Comedy Improv
- Never deny - instead use "Yes, and...", never ask a question as a retort, never dictate or break “reality”.
- Don’t Anticipate.
- Support your partner(s).
- Show us… don’t tell us!
- Is an ensemble effort… learn your partners’ strengths.
- Let things flow.
- Improv is NOT competitive!
- Acting violence must be in SLOW motion. Use visual cues.
- Don’t try to joke – use a throught provoking situation. The comedy will flow.
- Add conflict, develop your character, find an activity in the moment.
- Listen, stay in focus, play the moment, don’t plan what to say, play the scene legitimately.
- Traffic Pattern: Front: New scene. Rear: Enter scene. Side: Split scene
