Braving the Attack
Boom!
Anna Jane opened her eyes in George’s belly.
“Hm? What was that?” she asked, half-asleep. Boom! This time, she felt the
shaking. Anna Jane climbed up to the top. She poked her head up. The little girl
narrowed her eyes. What was that? A whistling sound grew closer. Anna Jane
turned her head. She saw something flying towards her. The child widened her
eyes and ducked back down. The whistling sailed over George.
“Everyone!” Anna Jane shouted. “We’re under attack! Get up! We’re under attack!
We’re under attack!” Everyone started waking up.
“What?” Vivian asked. Boom! That woke everyone right up.
“What?” Vivian asked. Boom! That woke everyone right up.
“What was that?!” Vivian cried.
“We’re under attack!” Anna Jane shouted. Boom! Everyone looked around.
“What do we do?” Logan asked. Boom! Boom! Sgt. Ripley took a closer listen.
“Monkey Island,” she said. The kids looked up at her. Sgt. Patel raised his
eyebrow.
“You can’t be serious,” he said. Ripley nodded once.
“Oh…” he said.
“What?” Anna Jane asked. The sergeants looked at her.
“We’re floating toward enemy territory,” Ripley said. Vivian’s eyes widened.
“What?! How did the happen?” she asked. The sergeants didn’t have an answer. The
color drained from the geisha’s face.
“Oh no…” she said.
“Is George awake?” Logan asked. Anna Jane put her ear to the wall. Snoring
blended with sailing missiles. She shook her head.
“We have to get him up!” Patel shouted.
“How do we do that?” Vivian asked. Boom! Boom!
“We have to try,” Anna Jane said. She started shaking on the walls.
“Come on! Wake up, George! We’re under attack! Wake up! Wake up!”
“How is that going to work?” Vivian asked. Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! The last shot
rocked the creature in his side. Anna Jane clung to his side.
“We have to keep trying!” she shouted. The girl shook the walls again.
“Wake up! Please wake up!” she pleaded. “Wake up! Wake up!” Logan stood up and
shook on the walls. Teddy and White Bear shook on the walls as well. The
sergeants looked at each other.
Boom!
“We don’t have a choice, do we?” Patel asked. Ripley shook her head. She walked
over to a wall and started shaking. Patel shrugged and started shaking as well.
Vivian looked around. Everyone was shaking George’s walls as hard as they could.
What was the point? They were either going to die or be captured. So… why?
“Come on!” Anna Jane yelled. “Wake up!” Vivian dropped her shoulders. On what
the hell? The geisha walked over to a wall and started pushing. The humans
screamed at the creative.
“Wake up! Wake up!” everyone yelled. Boom! Boom! Boom!
“Meep!” George cried. Everyone fell backwards.
“Meep!” the creature yelled again. Boom! Boom! Boom!
“Meep!” George screamed. Splash! Everyone felt the pressure drop with that dive.
Anna Jane about bit her tongue. She covered her eyes and clenched her teeth.
Suddenly, George stopped. Everyone looked around.
“Hm? What just happened?” Logan asked.
“Shhh!” Ripley said. “Do you hear that?” Everyone took a listen. Water rushed
around the walls. Wait… We’re they…
“How long can he hold his breath?” Patel asked. Anna Jane shrugged and shook her
head.
“I didn’t know he could do this,” she said.
“And how long are we supposed to be down here?” Vivian asked.
“I don’t know,” the smaller girl said. The geisha threw back her head and
groaned. What else could they go? They would be shot on the surface. Their only
hope was the George could hold his breath for a long time. The ocean was so
relaxing around them.
