Forward to Fort Davis

Anna Jane sat in thought. They needed to get to Chronus. But the ocean, man…

She looked at the crew. Humans were still asleep. The bears looked asleep now. Anna Jane turned back to her radio. Fort Davis sounded appealing. Still, she couldn’t decide alone.

Sometime later, everyone was awake. Vivian stared at Anna Jane.

“You can’t be serious,” she said.

“Uh-huh!” the younger girl said. The geisha shook her head.

“Oh hell no!” she shouted. “No! No way! No Uh-uh! No! No!”

“But…” Anna Jane said.

“No!” Vivian shouted. She folded her arms across her chest.

“It could be a trap,” the geisha said.

“No it’s not,” Anna Jane said.

“And how do you know that?” Vivian asked.

“I just do!”

“Are you stupid?”

“No!”

“You have no idea how the world works!”

“So what? We have to see!”

“No, we don’t!”

“Yes, we do!”

“No, we don’t!”

“Yes, we do!”

“Enough!” Logan shouted. Both girls went quiet. The cowboy lay on his stomach.

“This is going nowhere,” he said. The cowboy turned to Anna Jane.

“Why do you want to go to Fort Davis?” he asked. The little girl’s eyes turned bright red. She pointed to her radio. Vivian threw up her hands and laughed.

“Seriously?!” she asked. “A voice on the radio? That’s it?” Anna Jane nodded once. The geisha threw back her head and groaned.

“What did you hear?” Logan asked.

“Virginia and her grandpa,” Anna Jane said.

“What did they want?” he asked.

“They didn’t say,” she said.

“Where is the fort?” the cowboy asked.

“Near the ocean,” Anna Jane answered. She glanced up, waiting. The cowboy took a moment to think.

“We could check out the signal,” he said at last. Vivian stared at with big eyes.

“You can’t be serious!” she shouted. Logan held up his hand.

“Hear me out,” he said. “Aren’t you curious about this fort? Why were they trying to reach out? Aren’t you curious?” Anna Jane stared at her. Vivian puffed up her cheeks.

“Whatever,” she muttered.

“Yay!” Anna Jane cheered, pumping her small fists in the air. She turned to George.

“George, take us to Fort Davis!” she shouted.

Meep!” the creature shouted. Vivian sighed and rolled her eyes.

“This is so stupid,” she muttered to herself. “Don’t come crying to me if we end up getting captured and tortured.” Everyone else paid her no mind. George floated along to their new destination.
