Teddy Kingdom

Teddy stepped forward. He never spoke a word. The Teddy cop listened.

“You’re saying that you and these humans came here to the city?” he asked. Teddy nodded once.

“I see,” the cop said. “What is your purpose of coming here?” Anna Jane strained to listen. All eyes sat on the two bears. The cop nodded while he listened.

“You’re looking for your friends after an accident?” he asked. Teddy nodded. The cop took out his notepad and began to take notes.

“Where did you come from?” he asked. Teddy eyed the cop with no verbal words. Anna Jane looked confused. Why couldn’t she hear him talk? He never even moved his mouth. How was he doing this? Could he have done this all along? Why hadn’t he tried to talk to her before? The cop finished taking notes.

“Wait, where did you say again?” he asked. Teddy answered in his silence. All of the toys gasped. Anna Jane looked around.

“What? What is it? What happened?” she asked. The teddy cop dropped his pen.

“That can’t be!” he said.

“What?” Anna Jane asked. The teddy cop blew his whistle. Footsteps rushed towards Anna Jane and her party. The girl’s heart pounded against her chest.

“You are now in custody of the Toy City Police,” the cop said.

“What?!” Anna Jane shouted. “What’s going on? What did we do?” Three police teddy bears surrounded her. The first cop took Teddy by the arm. It all happened so fast. The next thing she knew, she and Teddy were hauled down the street.

Anna Jane sat alone in a white room. She shivered with her knees to her chest. She looked up when the door opened. Another teddy cop walked into the room. Anna Jane stared with big eyes. The cop closed the door behind them.

“It’s okay,” the teddy bear said. “We’re not going to hurt you. You’re not in trouble. We just want to talk.” Anna Jane stared at it, silent. The cop walked in front of her.

“What is your name?” the small creature asked.

“Anna Jane Fukao,” she said. The cop gave her a strange look.

“Funny name,” it said. Anna Jane frowned.

“And what is your name?” she asked. The cop stood up straight.

“I am Officer Phillip,” he said. The girl blinked.

“Okay…” she said.

“Mind if I sit with you?” Phillip asked.

“No…”

“Thank you.”  Phillip climbed up next the white bench.

“Now, why are you here?” he asked.

“I followed the parade into this town,” Anna Jane said. “Where’s the baby? Are they okay?” The teddy cop patted her on the back.

“She’s fine,” he said. The girl titled her head.

“She?” she asked. The teddy cop nodded.

“Yes,” he said. “The baby is a girl.”

“And Teddy?” Anna Jane asked. “Where is he?”

“He’s doing well,” the cop said. “We have him in another room.” Phillip was a dark brown. He looked so cute in his uniform. Even the shades look adorable.

“So what is your purpose of coming Toy City?” he asked. Anna Jane sat up.

“We’re just passing through,” she said. “We need to find our friends. We’re looking for Chronus.” The cop whipped his head around.

“What did you say?” he asked.

“We’re looking for Chronus,” she said. The room became quiet. Phillip reached into his pocket.

“Attention! We have a Code Star! I repeat, we have a Code Star! Requesting back-up!”

“What? What do you mean?” Anna Jane asked. Sirens blared in the air. Two more teddy bear cops ran into the room. Anna Jane’s day got more complicated.
