Wind Storm
So strange…
Anna Jane tugged on Logan’s sleeve.
“Logan,” she whispered. “Logan. Logan!” The cowboy jerked awake.
“Huh? What?” he asked.
“Look,” she whispered. The girl pointed out the window. The clouds grew darker.
“Oh…” he muttered. Suddenly, the plane started shaking. Anna Jane grabbed her
armrests.
“What? What’s going on?” Vivian asked.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” the woman said over the intercom. “We are experiencing
some minor turbulence. Please stay calm. We will get through this. Please keep
and calm and breathe.” The children didn’t look convinced. It began to rain.
The shaking didn’t stop. Vivian hung on to the best of her ability.
“This is turbulence?!” she shouted. Thunder erupted outside. The geisha
screamed. Logan had to lightly shush her.
“Shhh. It will be okay,” he whispered. “Just breathe. Keep calm. Keep calm.”
Vivian took in slow breaths. That didn’t help ease the storm. Anna Jane watched
the lighting flash.
The storm grew thicker as time dragged on. The soldiers had brave faces the
whole time. Vivian looked around, panicked.
“Where did this storm come from?” she asked hanging onto her armrests. A
sergeant sat behind her, breathing hard.
“We might have to do an emergency landing,” he said. The geisha whipped her head
around.
“Land where?!” she asked.
“Scully will find a place,” he said. Vivian looked ready to cry. Logan grabbed
her hand. Anna Jane pulled Teddy into her lap. George started wailing.
“Attention passengers!” the woman shouted over the intercom. “Everyone exit to
the rescue pods! I repeat! Everyone to the rescue pods!” Forget orderly fashion.
The soldiers hurried to the escape pods. The children got separated in the
shuffle. Sirens blared everywhere. The winds had grown worse by now. The plane
rocked like it was drunk. At one point, the plane was tilted to the right and
still trying to fly straight. It didn’t look like it would stay up in the air.
Even the pilot started to panic.
“This is it, everyone,” she said. “Pray that we survive. I wish you luck.” The
storm picked up and the plane shook worse. And then…
Crash!
----------
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Anna Jane slowly fluttered her eyes open when she heard muzzled sounds outside.
She unfastened her belt and lifted the door to the pod. Only trees far as the
eye could see.
“Huh?” Anna Jane asked. “Where am I?”
