My second anime convention. My first cosplay experience. I tend to think of this one as my first con mostly because I remember it better than the first one (C-kon 2002), though. Honestly, not the best of cons, but at the time I had no idea, lol. They were still fun regardless, though this year was so much better. I mean, not only did my sister come, but going to a con and not cosplaying is just wrong. That is so much of the fun! I won't go into a lot of details about this con, but just know that it was VERY small and not incredibly well organized. What made it fun was the costumes and who all went. Besides my sister and myself, our anime club president, Sam, and another club member, John, also went. It was just the four of us, but it was a fun little group. I could have had a lot more fun, but I am a very shy person and I was still rather reserved around them at the time. ^_^;; But we went for the Saturday and ended up having a great time.
~ Our Cosplay ~
I first decided to go as Duo since 1.) I liked his character, 2.) his costume was relatively simple, and 3.) he had long brown hair just like me. But the pants ended up not being flexible enough... They now have a hole in them (luckily got it at the end of the day), but I have recently got my hands on a pair of pants that would be PREFECT to edit into new Duo pants if I ever need a quick, easy cosplay, and best of all they were FREE, lol. It wasn't the most comfortable costume thanks to the pants, but not incredible uncomfortable either. I just had to watch how I sat or else my pants would rip. ^_^;; There was another Duo there too, but she didn't have the pants or shoes right, lol. XD
My sis ended up going as Robin for a few reasons, but these are just guesses since I don't really remember. For one, it was easy. SO EASY. She also loved Robin's hair. And, since I was Duo (the "priest"), Robin kinda fit since she's a "nun". Note the quotations, lol. Neither one really seems to be either, and yet Duo wears a priest collar and Robin basically grew up in a church as a nun of sorts (if I am remembering correctly). So we "matched". ^_~ But besides being a little on the tight side, I think it was a fairly comfortable costume. And the hair got a lot of compliments, lol.
~ Random Events of the Day ~
Well, for one, Sam and John, who had not cosplayed, felt a little left out, lol. So we ended up dubbing them Sweater Boy and Man with Sword respectively (we happened to have leftover cardboard swords in the trunk of our car (don't ask why, too long and detailed of a rant...) so he walked around with it, lol). Another thing is that there were 2 guys that were talking to me about my costume in the dealer's room. They liked how I even went to the extent of making pilot pants instead of regular pants (even though said they were a bit off, which, maybe they were but it was my first cosplay!), but the fact that I was a girl was scary, lol. They were like "But Duo is a boy! A boy should cosplay as him!" ^_^;; Ahh, my first experience with crossplay and I get criticized for being a girl, lol. It didn't bother me though since it seemed like they were just poking fun for the sake of poking fun. Also, people really seemed to like the Robin costume I made my sis. ^_^ That made me happy. It was also so much fun having people call out "DUO!!" and meaning me, lol. I was a pretty crappy Duo attitude-wise, though. I am trying to get better at acting the parts of my characters, but I do get rather shy in such circumstances... Oh well.
Another interesting event for our group was the DDR tournament. John and Sam entered, though Sam was a beginner and John is actually quite good. Sam didn't get far, but John ended up getting second overall! We were so proud, lol. But the funny thing was that while John got a CD from Armitage as his prize, the first place winner got a Yu Yu Hakkusho (sp?) DVD. We all decided second place was better anyway, lol. None of us had seen Armitage, but hey, any music is better than one DVD from a series that isn't even any good (in our opinion, no offense to anyone that likes it). So he was happy with second. ^_~
Let's see, I believe that was also the year that Wendee Lee was there. I think. Could have been 2002. ^_^;; Anyway, in case it WAS that year, I'll add it. I ended up going to her panel, which was interesting, but not incredibly exciting. But I wanted to go since she had been the voice of TK! XD She did mention Digimon and how she loved working on it (apparently she did more than act for it), but she also mentioned that there were 2 episodes that, while she was sick, someone else acted for. She tried getting them to let her do them, but they wouldn't let her and she seemed pretty upset by it. I started wondering which ones these were, so when I saw her in the dealer's room, I some how mustered up the courage to ask her. I think she got kinda mad at me because she was like "Well, I don't really know, but I heard it was really obvious." in this tone of voice like "YOU should know since it was so obvious!" hahahaha! Anyway, just for the record, I think it was episodes 13 and 14. 14 definately, though perhaps 15 instead of 13. I don't remember at this point. But that was interesting. Come to think of it... I think that may have been the year before. ^_^;;;;; Ah well, whatever.
Anyway, for THIS year, Sam tried to get us to enter the cosplay competition. Now, I REALLY don't EVER want to do that unless I am 100% confident in the costumes. I was very stubborn about it, but it ended up not mattering since it was too late to sign up anyway. But the other three came up with this on the spot skit (that we would all be in, lol). I don't even remember what it was about, but I remember thinking "I REALLY don't want to!" ^_^;; Me and my shyness... But yeah. Another thing that was fun about this year was going to Subway in costume! XD So great! It was so funny because other cosplayers were there too. The people working seemed to have so much fun with us all, lol. I remember we saw a Sora and Riku there (from Kingdom Hearts) and I know we got there picture, but my sis and I can't find our pictures... If I ever do, I'll be sure to add at least some of them to this page.
And speaking of cosplay pics, here is the small group of pics taken by Sam. Thanks for the pics, Sam! ^_^
