The Mystery of the Gnome:

Recently, a quaint blue letter was found sitting amongst the bills and flyers that normally populate the Gnomadic Artists mailbox. The first thing I noticed was the lack of a return address. Inside was a small note reading:

Hello

The Gnome People have given me a new assignment.

I am to travel to the home of Gnomadic Artists.

I have enclosed some shots of myself enjoying Edmonton.

I will be at my new home soon.

And surely, there were two small polaroid photos of an orange-clad garden gnome outside of West Edmonton Mall and at a 'Welcome to Edmonton' sign. It seems that we may have a foot-tall visitor to this year's Fringe show. I can only wait in humble anticipation, and shake my head. I feel like Amelie's father...

Is this someone's idea of a prank? Perhaps those little gnomes we all adore really do get around on their own. Only time will tell.

The Second Letter:

Here is the second letter we received regarding the gnome. Again, there were 3 pictures with it. One of the Gnome in front of Fringe Admin., one in front of the University of Alberta, and the last outside the Walterdale Playhouse.

The Mystery continues:

Thursday's rehearsal started with an unexpected phone call. Usually, we can expect a phone call from our friend Mike, who has an uncanny knack of calling us right during the middle of our rehearsals, but this day was different. After picking up the phone and a brief message, our director, Jason, had a worried look on his face. The look then turned to perplexion, followed by joy. "That was a limo driver," he said. "Something about a delivery for Gnomadic Artists." We were all flabbergasted. A few minutes later, we were all waiting outside Jason and Jon's appartment in anticipation. Sure enough, a white limo pulled up...

A very kind limo driver got out, opened the back door, and escorted his fare to its new home.

The Gnome had arrived.

Our new member of the cast is roughly a foot and a half tall and weighs about twenty-five pounds. He has no name yet. Like before, a small letter came with the package, but this time, it contained only photos.

With a thank you and a wave, the limo was off, and we were left pondering who the heck did all this.

Since we don't have a name for him yet, we're open to suggestions. It can't be Gnorman. That's the name of our fine, smaller gnome below. E-mail us with your ideas...

A final word about the gnome:

In the spirit of Amelie, it seems that whoever sent us our little Gnomadic friend wishes to remain completely anonimous. We're cool with that, though we've all had our guesses as to who it may have been. Perhaps it's best left unknown, but we all want to thank whoever it was that concieved this kind gesture. You've brought a bit of magic to the production, and we are all very grateful to be part of something so mysterious.

Lots of thanks!

- Jason

(P.S.: He will be onstage before every show, for every production we do. See the photo section for his brief cameo as a sign warden.)
