RAB CHRONICLES - 1990-2004 - pavementing town squares - opening of the new 'shopping centre' Sarengrad, with the bus station with poor access, construction of the big police station - decay of old town centre, booming of open air market stalls - loss of ferry line to Rijeka and Zadar - local excessive houses construction and augmentation building without necessary infrastructure, particularly in Lopar and Barbat island parts, with the boost of holiday houses that are in use only seasonally ( spanish syndrom) - primitive communal dump / no recycling or proper waste management -- on this dump can be found medical junk; bottles, needles, bandages...	return to tourism:: pro-and -cons Your comments/ observations are welcome here View My Guestbook Sign My Guestbook	KRONIKA OTOKA, RAB 1990 -2004: - popločavanje trga - izgradnja Šarengrada i autobusnog kolodvora s lošim pristupom, izgradnja velike policijske stanice - izumiranje stare jezgre grada, poplava štandera - gubitak trajektne veze s Rijekom i Zadrom - nekontrolirana gradnja i nadogradnja kuća bez potrebne infrastrukture, posebno u mjestima Lopar i Barbat, uz nagli porast vikendica koje rade samo sezonski (španjolski sindrom) - primitivno smetlište / nema recikliranja ili ozbiljnog gospodarenja otpadom, na smetlištu se može naći čak medicinski otpad( medicinska ambalaža; bočice, igle, gaze...)!

Planns developed for an island airport.		- uzurpacija zemljišta - selektivna ne pravna denacionalizacije zemljišta - upitna privatizacija i poslovanje otočkog najvećeg hotelskog poduzeća - izgradnja novog velikog doma zdravlja - 'poplava' parkirališta - rekonstrukcija / popločenje luke - rekonstrukcija kulturnih spomenika / katedrala i samostan Sv. Andrije, ali zato neadekvatan pristup problematici spomenika XX st. ( WW2 i domovinski rat) - Rapska plovidba nabavila novi veći trajekt - asfaltirano zemljište u zaštićenoj uvali ( ptičje stanište). namjena: heliodrom za hitnu službu, ironično - nije u upotrebi! Planira se aerodrom.
- construction of telecommuniation towers in the Dundo woods and on the St. Iliah hill - devastation incident in Dundovo Kalifront woods with deforestation; exceeding cuttings - planns developed to build island's industiral zone in the detrius rocky part on the island's south, near ferry- port - discourse on giving further concessions to the (?) investor(s) for the construction of apartments village in Kalifront Dundovo woods - colonisation of the non-native alien species to the island environmental ecosystem; bringing the invasive plants / through gardening, in the sea, to wild animals / mouflon, stag, deer, even invasive animals such as wild boar and golden jackal. This last, because of the damages these animals do on the crops and to sheep farmers, resulted in the griffon poisoning incident.		- postavljeni telekomunikacijski repetitori u šumi Dundo i vrhu Sv. Ilija - planira se industrijska zona na jugu otoka / kršni dio blizu trajektnog pristaništa - rasprave o mogućim koncesijama investitorima (?) za izdradnju apartmanskog naselja u Šumi-parku Kalifront Dundovo - naseljavanje neautohtonih životinjskih i biljnih vrsti; od vrtlarstva, pa do uvoza visoke divljači, čak i opasnih vrsta ( vepar, čagalj) na otok, što je dovelo do uništavanja okoliša, napada na usjeve i domaće životinje i predstavlja opasnost za šetače. Štete u ovčarstvu su vjerojatno i rezultirale ovim nehotimičnim pomorom supova.
- 18.- 24.12.2004: Griffon poisoning; 17 Griffons and 2 eagles dead at Rab's communal dump!! local newspaper cover - paved green patch near the St. Christopher's square in order to make more seasonal booths, what is a great communal revenue, what the greens and heritage protection movements can do about this and similar issues? - light pollution: unappropriate city lights, lighting of the park Dorka, construction of the big reflectors on the foothballground - construction of the new public sports hall ... Recent building on public parking on Rab nicely shows lack of planning and waste of financial means. Except for the tax payers, of course without persecutions for anyone involved in it before or after, as the responsibility is not enough known category in this society. No wonder.		- 18.-24.12.2004: Trovanje insekticidom na Sorinju; ukupno 17 Supova i 2 orla!! Pregled događanja, Novilist: - Na Rabu ubijeno deset bjeloglavih supova... - Masakr supova u slavu pregovora s EU... - Tri supa imala su prostrijelne rane.. - Nadjeno još šest uginulih supova - Nebo bez supa je crna rupa - izbetoniran dio parka kod Trga Sv. Kristofora da bi se dobilo više mjesta za štandove za sezonu, što čini dobar prinos u mjesnu blagajnu, a šta mogu zeleni i zaštitari nasljeđa? - svjetlosna zagađenje: neadekvatna stara javna rasvjeta, postavljanje rasvjete u park Dorka, postavljanje velikih reflektora (svjetlosno zagađenje) na nogometno igralište - izgradnja sporstke dvorane ... Gradnja na nedavno uređenom javnom parkingu na Rabu lijep je primjer nikakvog planiranja i rasipanja financijskih sredstava. Naravno bez posljedica za ikoga prije i poslije, osim poreznih obveznika, jer odgovornost u poslu je još nedovoljno istražena kategorija na ovim prostorima. Ništa čudno.
Just as before, 'public servants' use big public projects to capitalise their 'success'. It is overhelamed with poor management and corruption on all levels. Distransparent open bids, political facilitating and discrimination, unlawfulness, money laundering and similar criminal acts, illegal work force, then uneffectivness and distortion of the juridical system, delays, poor locating, financijal mismanagement, waste and pollution, disrespect of the local community are few of the characteristics of our society.	We need to learn to live within our own limits, respecting phisical boundaries and natural cycles of growth, dying and renewal, understanding that with the usage all energy, material, space and time ware out ie. decrease. Javni sektor je prepravljen lošim upravljanjem i korupcijom na svim razinama. Netransparentni natječaji, političko pogodovanje i diskriminacija, protuzakonistost, nelegalna radna snaga, pranje novca i sl. kriminal, pa onda i neučinkovitost i deformiranost sudskog sistema, kašnjenje radova, loši odabiri lokacija, rasipanje novca, zagađenje okoliša, nepoštivanje lokalnog stanovništva i njihov ih interesa... Ukratko to su karakteristike našeg društva i njegovog 'slobodnog' tržišta.

CONTUINUATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEVASTATION ITS HAPPENING: geo- hazard, construction on agricultural land, abandoning traditional farming and crafts, loosing traditions, environment devastation, destroying coastal zone, submarine and underground waters and water springs, growing exotic plants and introduction of invasive animals in environment, undue urbanisation, bad space planning, for years unsolved communal problems, waste disposal ( let alone recycling!) not resolved adequately, non existant waste water and sewerage, unsuficient traffic communication, burdening of the whole system due to the seasonal overload, great amount of public services and public servants as the main yearly employment resource, generally rich community, careerism, elitism, club -lobbying, self-centrism of local and government institutions, poor social sensibility or co-operation, covetousness, isolation, identity blackout, identification with homo - consumer tourism -pro -and cons	turizam:: kontradikcije Your comments/ observations are welcome here View My Guestbook Sign My Guestbook	...NASTAVLJA SE NEODGOVORNA DEVASTACIJA OKOLIŠA DOGAĐJA SE: geohazard, gradnja na poljoprivrednim površinama, napuštanje poljodjelstva, stočarstva, tradicionalnih obrta ali i običaja, devastacija okoliša, ugrožavanje obalnog pojasa, podmorja i izvora pitke vode, sađenje neautohtonog bilja, uvođenje neautohtonih životinja u okoliš, preizgrađenost, loše gospodarenje prostorom, dugogodišnji nerješeni komunalni problemi, nezbrinjavanje otpada, nepostojanje sistema zbrionjavanja otpadnih voda i kanalizacije, neadekvatna prometna povezanosi, opterećenost cijelog sistema zbog izrazite sezonalnosti, veliki broj javnih službi i službenika kao glavnog izvora cijelogodišnje zaposlenosti, općenito bogata zajednica, karijerizam, elitizam, interesno strančarenje, samodostatnost lokalnih i državnih institucija, slaba socijalna osjetljivost i suradnja, gramzivost, izolacija, gubitak identiteta, identifikacija s homo- konzumerom turizam - pro & cons
