The Beatles
I drew this because it had always been one of my favorite pictures of the Beatles. I bought a print of an oil painting by Leo Jensen. His artwork of the picture inspired me to create my own drawing. Because the drawing is too large for my scanner, I scanned a photograph of it. I was disappointed to find that the photo had made a glare underneath Ringo and part of Paul - that is why that section is blurred. I tried correcting it with a photo editor, but it could not be fixed. It is also a bit distorted because the photo was not taken parallel to the drawing - creating a slight (unintentional) "Rubber Soul" effect. Detail is always lost when the actual artwork cannot be scanned.
Awards/Recognitions: This drawing won an Honorable Mention ribbon at the 1999 Bloomsburg, PA Fair. This drawing also received two ribbons for participation in the 16 & Under category for the 1999 and 2000 Chicago Beatlefest Art Contests. This drawing is displayed on Bagism's Exhibit 11 on the Art & Poetry page.

Imagine
This drawing was inspired by the back cover of John Lennon's early solo album, "Imagine." A cousin visited my house and challenged me to a drawing contest. He eventually gave up, and I finished the drawing a few days later. This gave me an opportunity to practice bone structure and human profiles. I chose not to draw the background scene because I wanted the drawing to focus on John. He appears to be laying down, looking up into the sky - at peace.

War Is Over
This drawing was inspired through a picture of John and Yoko taken in the early 1970s. They are sitting together, both in army garb. However, I chose to draw John sitting alone - mostly because I did not have paper large enough to include Yoko. I wanted to focus on John and make him large enough to fit detail in the drawing. This piece gave me a chance to practice drawing fabric with a lot of wrinkles and folds. I also got some practice drawing hands. Once again, I had scanner touble. It left a yellow tint (most noticeable at the top of the drawing), which I could not get rid of without erasing some of the shading.

Hamburg John
This was my first large drawing of any kind, and it's of my favorite pictures of John Lennon. One of my friends was into art (and the Beatles), too, and had all sorts of supplies. When I was visiting her one day, we decided to draw, and she gave me the large paper. I drew it from a photo by Astrid Kirchherr that originaly had a blurred Stuart Sutcliffe in the background. However, I did not even attempt to draw him. This drawing took me a few hours. Also, the quality of this photo is not high at all.
Awards/Recognitions: This drawing received a ribbon for participation in the 16 & Under category for the 1997 New Jersey Beatlefest Art Contest.

Sgt. Pepper John
I remember getting the 2nd Anthology cd and flipping through the booklet for a picture to draw. I found one of John with glasses (!) and a moustache (!!). Since I didn't have that much drawing experience at the time, I was excited to try something new. It took me forever to get the glasses the same size -- I think I used some tracing paper to transfer it, actually. Again, this is not the best photograph of the drawing.

Hamburg Train
Even as a new Beatles fan, I new that the Hamburg-era of the Beatles was my favorite. I found this photo by Astrid Kirchherr on the inside cover of my 1st Anthology cd booklet and decided to draw it. I didn't have any large paper, so I taped two pieces together. I remember working really hard to get their faces to resemble the photo. My sister always comented that she liked Stuart's 'pointy shoes'. Although this is a really ameature drawing, it will always be special to me. It's one of my first Beatle drawings, and it's nice to be able to see my progress over the last few years.
