From the Hills of West Virginia to the Streets of Dallas, Texas.
Bishop T.D. Jakes was born and raised in Charleston,
West Virginia. He grew up in a hillside neighborhood where every adult in
the community contributed to the children’s upbringing.
His early habit of preaching to an imaginary congregation and
always carrying his Bible to school earned him the nickname "Bible Boy."
Bishop Jakes’ hard work and tireless stamina stem from his parents,
Ernest and Odith Jakes, who instilled a strong work ethic in him at an early age.
Odith, a home economics teacher, taught all three of her children to cook,
sew and clean for themselves. Ernest was a self-made businessman — long before
entrepreneurism was common for African-Americans — who began a janitorial business with
one mop and one bucket. His business grew to 42 employees
who cleaned everything from the West Virginia Capitol building
to grocery stores throughout the Charleston area.
This entrepreneurial spirit and drive left a mark on young Thomas.
As a youth, he delivered newspapers and sold Avon
products and even vegetables from his mother’s garden.
Young Jakes was "called" to the ministry at 17
and first began preaching part-time while a
student at West Virginia State where he was enrolled
as a psychology major. Although he eventually became
art-time music director at the Baptist church where he grew up,
it wasn’t until 1982 — the year the Charleston-area chemical plant where
he worked closed and his father died of kidney disease —
that he began full-time ministry at the church he had started
two years earlier while still working at the plant.
Pastor Jakes’ first church, located in a storefront facility in Montgomery,
West Virginia, began with only 10 members. In a short time,
Jakes’ fresh and inspiring message transcended racial lines,
spread by word-of-mouth, and drew a large and growing integrated congregation
in a historically divided community. The church eventually became
known as the Greater Emanuel Temple of Faith and was affiliated
with Ohio-based Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies, a Pentecostal
church organization that governs approximately 200 churches.

Juanita is especially fond of her red-pepper poodle, Corky.
She was raised in a Pentecostal Church. She currently attends
Greater Bethel Ministries in Hempstead, New York, where she
teaches a mentoring class of 70 women. In June,
Bynum received a doctoral degree in theology from
Truth for Living Bible College in Jacksonville,Fl. As a prophet,
Bynum says,"there is a Prophetic Word for the New Millennium.
God is saying to me there are demonic forces
that will be released in the year 2001 that we are
not going to be aquainted with. The Lord is
withholding ministries that will later be released for warfare.
The word of The Lord to me is to encourage God's people and to make
sure they get a good understanding of His Word
because they're going to need it." Her mentors are Bible teacher Joyce Meyers,
her pastor, John Boyd Sr.,
and Katherine Bynum, her mother.
September 22, 1939 to Bishop
and Mrs. W. A. Patterson, Sr. in Humboldt,
Tennessee. He has been a gospel Minister
for over forty years, having accepted his calling at age 17.
He was ordained as an Elder in the Church of God
in Christ in 1957 by Bishop J. S. Bailey in Detroit, Michigan.
Bishop G. E. Patterson is a scholar as
well as a minister. He attended Lemoyne-Owen
College in Memphis, Tennessee, Detroit Bible Institute
and holds an honorary doctorate from Oral Roberts
University. Bishop Patterson is a contributing
writer in the Spirit Filled
Life Bible (KJV) which was edited by Dr. Jack Hayford.
Bishop Patterson is a pastor.
Bishop Patterson founded Temple of Deliverance
in 1975 and twenty-five years later Temple of Deliverance Church
of God in Christ has more than 13,000 members
on roll with more than 6,000 active members.
In May 1999, Bishop Patterson and Temple of Deliverance Church
of God in Christ entered their New Worship Center
which cost approximately 13 million dollars
and seats approximately 5000. It is one of the
fastest growing congregations in the country.
Because the church has three facilities,
it is described as “One church in three locations.”
During his ministerial career,
Bishop Patterson has organized 7 churches across the country.
Bishop Patterson is a visionary.
He is the founder/president of Bountiful Blessings

Bishop G. E. Patterson Presents Rance Allen
and the Soul Winner’s Conference Choir,
was nominated for a 1999 Grammy Award.
Bishop Patterson is a churchman.
On November 14, 2000, Bishop G. E. Patterson
was elected as Presiding Bishop
of the Church of God in Christ, Inc.
He is the jurisdictional Prelate of Tennessee
Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and a
member of the General Board of the Church of God
in Christ, Inc. He is one of
the most sought out speakers in the country.
Bishop Patterson has been married to his
beautiful wife, Louise for 33 years.
