CONE 6 OXIDATION

GLAZE GROUP #4

Top row 1st tile one left is from the Clayart Archives. Market Blue # 6372 (it is not as bright as the picture on my Bmix tile) The recipe should be in the Clayart archives either under C6 glazes or under Blue glazes.

Top row 2nd  tile from left is #5803 Color AA This is the Lana Wilson Chrome Tin base that I added Cobalt to. It's transparent, so if you want it to be more opaque, just add about 2- 2 1/2 % more tin oxide.
The top row far right, red glaze, is the same base with  chrome and tin for red. The oxides are listed in the "A" version of this glaze below.

21 Gerstley Borate
16 Nepheline Syenite
11 Kaolin (I probably used EPK)
20 Whiting
32 Silica

AA 1 Cobalt Oxide 5% Tin Oxide.
A. Chrome Tin Red -add Chrome Oxide 0.15%, Tin Oxide 5%
**Your might try combining the two for a more purplish red.
My next test on these will be up up the Cobalt oxide to 1 1/2% and overlap the red and blue with wax resist design underneath.

Second row from top, far left tile is #6469 June Perry Calcium Euctectic
This is a glaze I reformulated for a friend, based on one  another friend did. This one as well as the initial one, were based on Parmalee's Calcium eutectic formula.  The original  crazed a hair and I revised it to lower the expansion a bit  without changing the general character of the glaze.  I still got crazing on BMix. I want to test it again on another body at a full, large cone 10. This was done with just a cone 6 bar cone. The color is a nice cream and it has a mutton fat surface.

**Don't apply thickly or it will crawl.
Recipe:

12.05 Plastic Vitrox
22.09 Custer Feldspar
45.18 Wollastonite
20.08 EPK
0.60 Silica
------
100 Total

These very high calcium glazes can give incredible matts when fired down. The calcium forms crystals, which give a beautiful matt surface similar to the art pottery of the early 1900's.  In normal firing, it is fat/buttery. Don't apply too thickly or it might crawl. Normal thickness should suffice.

Second Row from top, second glaze from left is  June Perry #7473 V3 color A. It is another calcium eutectic type glaze.  It has a lovely surface and medium peach color, darker than the one next to it. Tile is porcelain.

Recipe:

25.23 Custer Feldspar

40.92 Wollastonite

20.28 EPK

 4.13 Calcined Kaolin

 0.18 Talc

 9.27 Silica

Total 101

 A color ADD: Rutile 2 %, Tin oxide 4%

Second Row from top far right glaze is #7091V2 Color Y June Perry Alumina matt. The tile is porcelain and the surface is a transparent buttery gloss and the color is a light peach.

Recipe:

29.94 Ferro Frit 3124

23.15 Wollastonite

17.27 Kentucky OM#4 Ball Clay

15.85 Calcined Kaolin

  5.11 Dolomite

 8.68 Silica

Total 100

COLOR Y ADD:   Rutile 4%, Tin Ox 2.5%, Superpax 3.5%

Bottom row far left tile is called "Watercolor" from the Tom Coleman book.  I fired it to cone 7 bar cone and as you can see, it pooled at the base. The color is a brilliant, beautiful green. that crazed on the P5 porcelain body.

Bottom row 2nd tile from left is Val Cushing's  Pale turquoise glaze. It said it is good for C5-9 ox or reduction.  I've numbered it #5817 for my purposes. It's a lovely buttery gloss, blue with a good fit on the Bmix tile.

Recipe:

27.60 Custer Feldspar

16.87 Gerstley Borate

21.32 Flint

8.82 whiting

2.90 Dolomite

2.34 Copper carb.

0.80 Bentonite

Bottom row, far right tile is #7295 color N. This is a fake ash glaze. The color is bit darker than picture shows.  It ran a bit, so be careful and glaze high enough to allow for the flow.  It has a lovely, satin finish.

Recipe:

46 Ferro Frit 3195

34 Whiting

20 EPK

ADD: for N color Cobalt carb 0.6%, Chrome oxide 0.125%, Copper Carb 0.5%, Zircopax 3.5%
