Wax Paper:
Need I say more? You won’t need large sheets, but sushi rice sticks to everything, including but not limited to the containers that you may want to store it in. This is also necessary if you are going to use a sushi mat, as picking rice off a bamboo mat is not fun. The process of rolling the sushi is going to take quite some time; you don’t want to add much more into the cleaning process.

|
Plastic Gloves:
As previously stated with the wax paper, this rice will stick to your hands and refuse to get off for any reason, including soap and hot water. To avoid the frustration of destroying a perfectly rolled piece of sushi, wear plastic gloves. Oddly enough, the rice will not stick to the plastic of the gloves. If you can’t pick up a box of gloves, plastic snack bags will work as a substitute.

Cooking Pot:
Most people who cook at home have a pot of some size in their house. Any size will actually work, but may lengthen your cooking time or cause a longer clean-up time. There is no reason to buy a new one if you have one in your house.
|
|
Frying Pan:
If you own a cooking pot, you likely own a frying pan as well. Again, there is no reason to replace your current pan with another just because it sounds like a good idea. Size is not a factor.

|
Cutting Knives:
One or two sizes is needed, one to cut the ingredients during the preparation and one to cut the rolls from a strip into the traditional short-circular sushi roll. If you are handy with the one knife you own, there is no reason to purchase another.
