School Uniforms
Tom M. Oestrike

Many schools have made the choice to have students wear uniforms in their schools, hoping to safety, provide a healthy learning environment, and to make life a lot simpler for many families with children. According to yahoo.com school uniform website, “students have a tendency to become unruly, lose focus, and rebel individually against administrators if they don’t feel they have freedom to express themselves through their own attire.” Those are all problems administrators face, but families can be affected as well. Low Income families would have a hard time making sure their child has the proper uniform to attend school.

To ensure a healthy learning environment it is important that students are comfortable with in their clothing. Having students become unruly, and lose their focus throughout the school day would hinder their education. Students would feel a sense of confidence if they were able to dress their own individual fashion. This added confidence would help students pay attention, and have the self-esteem to participate in classroom discussion.

Forcing kids to wear uniforms would be making a big mistake. The main problem in schools is that many kids don't want to learn what is being taught. If students were forced to wear uniforms they would have another reason to rebel against the administration, thus causing it harder to teach and learn. Students need time in their lives to have enough freedom to express themselves through the clothing they wear. They also deserve to achieve, and education and they must be comfortable to do so. I was even willing to work at it.

If I was forced to wear the same clothes everyday I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Students go through stages in life, and the attire they choose can help them express their emotions. Part of the education process is letting students grow on their own through the education we provide for them. If they are constantly wearing the same uniform to school then they may have emotional problems. These problems could inhibit their social life along with their ability to learn. This is a problem that can be prevented students don’t’ wear uniforms.

The idea of uniforms seems inexpensive at first, but they are worn everyday, and would never be worn out easily. Some families may not have a problem with this, but low income families would have a hard time making sure their student would be properly dressed for school. If a student’s uniform becomes worn down he/she will be made fun of by other students. This not only makes it hard for the student to learn, but then their social life is affected as well. This can scare them for a lifetime.

School uniforms will cause nothing, but problems for administration. Education should be geared towards the good of a student. Student’s lives would be controlled if they had to wear uniforms. They don’t provide students with a healthy learning environment if they are forced to wear them. After all it is most important for a student to achieve their goals as best they can, forcing them to wear uniforms would get be another obstacle for them to overcome.
