The Road to Design, A Complete Multimedia Guide to
Creating Two-dimensional Artwork, is
a CD-ROM educational product for beginning art students, ages 13-18. This product carries you through your
personal selection of the artistic elements of line, color, value, shape, form,
space and texture. You will be able to
choose from a wide selection of various aspects of each artistic element. You can be drastic in your selection or you
may choose elements that seem to “fit” together. The program will then guide you through each step of the design
process, using the elements you have chosen, until you have created your own
original work of art, just like the Masters!
Your guide along The Road to Design is a Master artist,
illustrator, writer and teacher of young artists. She will take you through each step carefully, helping you to
make decisions about your artwork, which will help to form it into an
aesthetically pleasing work of art. She
will help you to combine lines and colors with textures, to create anything
your imagination allows, from Abstract Expressionism, in a Cubistic style, to
Impressionism, in a Surrealistic style, and anything in between. Each piece can be drastically different, and
no two pieces will ever be the same.
The Road to Design has a colorful, festive look to it.
It combines a huge array of bright and subdued colors, with festive
graphics and fun animation. Creativity
is fun, and beginning artists will immediately be attracted to the bright
colors and artistic ambience of the program.
The Road to Design is both educational and rewarding.
You learn the differences between types of lines, the visual effects of
different color schemes, and the varying appearances of different visual
textures. You learn the differences
between shapes and forms and the various types of each, as well as the
difference between positive and negative space. Through the design process, as you travel down the “road”, you
are shown the visual effects of rhythm and movement in design. You are also shown the varying effects of
informal balance compared to formal balance and differences between degrees of
proportion. You learn how to create
focal points, using different methods, like use of color and isolation, as well
as others. You learn how to create
unity and harmony through the arrangement of the elements and through the
composition of your artwork. As each
issue is analyzed and introduced, you learn how to combine all of these
principles in the creation of an original work of art, which you can then call
your own creation.
The reward is a work of art, which you have created out of your
imagination, and which incorporates all of the principles of design. You use the media of your choice, and follow
the instructions of the program. When
your artwork is finished, you will have a two-dimensional work of art that you
can be proud of. This program can then
be used again to create an entirely different piece if you choose to do
so. This program helps you to focus on
the design qualities of your imagination and creative abilities.
The Road to Design, A Complete Multimedia Guide to
Creating Two-dimensional Artwork combines
the study of the Elements of Art with the study of the Principles of
Design. These two areas of study are
imperative to the beginning art student.
Beginning art students must know and understand the individual parts of
a work of art and how each part is related or contributes to the composition
and the unity of the entire work. All
of this is brought to you by exciting graphics, bright colors, fun animation
and a witty, experienced instructor.
Because this title contains a great bit of animation, sound, and video,
it is available in Windows ’98 and Windows 2000 for the PC, only. The minimum system requirements are a 600
MHz Pentium III processor, 16 MB RAM, 40 MB free hard drive space, and a 4X
CD-ROM drive. You will also need paper,
pencils, a variety of color media and a hard drawing surface.
