Technology Applications Standard XI—Web Mastering

My Proficiencies

 

Standard XI—The Web Mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, and Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

I am capable of making decisions regarding the acquisition and use of web mastering software applications, such as Adobe PageMill, Microsoft FrontPage, and Macromedia Dreamweaver, considering the quality, appropriateness, and efficiency of each program.

11.2s

I can make adjustments regarding compatibility issues, such as digital file formats and cross-platform connectivity.  I am aware of which file formats work in which programs and how to change the file formats if they are not compatible.

11.3s

I can effectively use vocabulary related to Web mastering as well as differentiate between the Internet and an intranet.

11.4s

I know how to plan and design web pages that are easily accessible to diverse audiences, such as using larger type and theories of color contrasts for hearing impaired readers, or adding sound to navigation buttons or photographs for visually impaired readers, etc.

I can effectively summarize the technical needs for a World Wide Web server, like amount of storage space, bandwidth, us of frames, compatibility, etc.

I am familiar with HTTP, and FTP, but I need to learn more about the development of other Internet protocols.

I can effectively use input/output devices, like a keyboard, scanner, digital camera, camcorder, mouse, sound recorders, etc. in the design of web pages.

I can effectively research the effect of the World Wide Web on society through interviews, surveys, and observations among other things.

I am highly capable of obtaining uniform resource locators (URLs) and distinguishing among some of the different Internet protocols.

I am highly capable of obtaining information in electronic format from the Internet and from intranets, through the use of search engines.

I know how to edit and change acquired electronic information without destroying the intellectual property of the information.

I can identify, create and edit various file formats, like .doc, .mpg, .art, .ppt, .wav, etc. when planning and designing web pages.

I can investigate electronic security systems, like Novell Border Manager, to protect a web server from unauthorized access and negative intentions.

I can design lesson plans for any subject matter, incorporating the design and creation of WWW pages, as an enrichment activity.

Although I have never done this, I’m sure I could figure out how to control access to a WWW site with password controls.  I need to work on this proficiency.

I am capable of creating a file directory for storage of web pages with necessary linked files in their corresponding folders.

I can use and navigate effectively through wide area networks, local area networks, the Internet, and intranets, for the purposes of research and sharing of WWW files.

I am highly effective in the development of WWW pages, like tutorials or web quests, to extend teaching and learning to the larger electronic community.  I can also teach my students how to do this.
