Reflection on Standard VIII—Digital Graphics and Animation

Technology Applications Standards

Digital Graphics and Animation are exciting forms of art in action.  Anyone interested in an art-related or technology related career should be exposed to the exciting world of how to create digital graphics and animations.  These skills can enhance a student’s chances of finding better jobs in their chosen careers.  The ability to be creative and original in the expression of ideas and concepts is a very valuable asset in today’s job market.  These talents open themselves up to a world of opportunities.  Over one-third of today’s careers involve technology and art in some context.  The ability to combine these two areas in effective ways is priceless and always in demand.  As an art teacher, I find that my students love the new and inventive things they can do with graphics and animation software.  It takes their knowledge of design to a new level and incorporates higher-level thinking in all aspects.  Also, when using animation software, my students are also engaging in advanced mathematical and scientific concepts.  Animation involves many different areas of study, not just art.  Therefore, it could easily be used in a mathematics or science class, in order to enhance learning.
