I utilize various software programs – Microsoft: Publisher, Word, Office, Excel; Corel: WordPerfect and Act. E-mail programs are used to communicate with other teachers and the administration.

I have used many different types of programs to produce different types of activities such as letters, lesson plans, and research papers in Microsoft Word.  I have used CorelDraw! 9, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, and Corel Painter Classic to create digital artwork.   I have used Microsoft PowerPoint, HyperStudio 4 and ULED to produce multimedia presentations.  I have used FrontPage and Netscape Composer to produce web pages.  I have used Homestead to build a website.  I have used Microsoft Publisher to create newsletters and other desktop publishing software to produce cards and certificates.

I am proficient in the use of external technological devices such as a digital camera, scanner, digital camcorder, SmartBoard, Zip Drive, Sensiva drawing pad, printer, fax machine, and CD rewriter to name a few.

I am somewhat proficient in determining whether or not software programs and hardware are compatible with each other.  I know about different file formats and cross-platform connectivity.  I can determine whether or not software and hardware can be used with both Macs and PCs.

I am proficient in using technology terminology.

I am proficient in performing basic software application functions, including opening a program, editing, creating, modifying, importing, exporting, printing and saving documents or projects.

I am proficient in explaining the difference between analog and digital technology systems and am able to give examples of each, such as VHS camcorders vs. digital camcorders.

I am proficient in using terminology related to the Internet, including HTML, LAN, WWW, URLs, e-mail, bookmarks, etc.

I am proficient at capturing digital files while conserving memory and retaining image quality.  For example, I know the difference between bitmap, .jpeg, .art files and .psd files.  Some of these take up more disk space than others do, but the image quality is better.

I am proficient with both Microsoft Word and WordPerfect, which are both word processors.  I have written an entire 300-page novel on WordPerfect and have written numerous letters, research papers, reports, etc. on Word.

I am somewhat proficient at planning, creating and editing spreadsheet documents in applications like Microsoft Excel.

I am learning more about editing, creating, and planning database information such as in the program Microsoft Access, although I have not had much opportunity to work with the program.

I am proficient with multimedia authoring programs to create linear projects, which incorporate audio, video, text and graphics.  Such authoring programs are Macromedia Director, Flash, HyperStudio, SoundForge, DreamWeaver, ULED, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

I am proficient with desktop publishing software such as Microsoft Publisher, to create newsletters, brochures, certificates, and greeting cards.

I am highly proficient in demonstrating and using several different paint and draw programs, including the numerous various tools in different applications.  Some of the applications I am most familiar with are Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw!9, Core Painter Classic, PaintShop Pro and Lumena.

I am highly proficient at integrating graphics, graphs, tables, etc in word documents.

I have not had much experience with the manipulation of virtual reality environments; however, I can use some simulation programs such as SimCity and flight simulators.  I am working on this area.

I have created technical instruction guides on a limited basis – meaning, very short. When I take my students to the computer lab, I give them a guide I have developed in the use of the appropriate program.

Web Quests and PowerPoint presentations are prefect examples of this technology application. One must have a foundation in a particular area in order to prepare the presentations.

I have begun to participate in electronic communities as a learner and initiator, and I am working toward being a contributor.

I am proficient in sharing tasks and information through on-line communication, such as on-line courses on the college level.

In teaching art, I have created products and demonstrations intended for use with my art students.  I have created a web site to share with my students; I have created lesson plans to share with other art instructors; and I am working on a web quest, which can be used by students and other instructors.

This course is a perfect example of distance learning. Publishing information via the various tools is sometimes frustrating; but, it is also fun.

I have designed time lines for the courses I teach, track trends in grades and comprehension of art topics from last year to this year; and, utilize daily/monthly planners.

Each year, all of my classes are required to make a PowerPoint presentation. I provide students with the criteria by which the presentations will be graded.

I am not sure what this application really is. Outside of compiling a Resource Guide that can be used with the various classes I teach, I am not sure of the definitions of this application.

I have never intentionally planned an applications-based technology lesson. However, I try to incorporate a range of instructional strategies in each class session.

The school requires that we have at least one lesson plan related to the use of technology. Also, the students are required to sign an “Acceptable Use Policy” for computer access.

Since I do not have access to a computer lab for each class, I do have to plan when I will use technology for a class lesson. After selecting the topic to be covered in the classroom, I incorporate problem-solving and decision-making situations in each lesson.

Since some students are more advanced in their technology skills than others, I often have the students work in teams. In these lessons, they are given criteria for group work and the standards by which they will be evaluated.

Adequate time depends on the time I have In the computer labs. I cover as many of the TEKS as possible in each assignment.

I have identified various sources to keep current with technology education. These include newspapers, journals, publications from the school, and courses offered at universities.

The projects that my classes create do provide for integration of the Technology Applications TEKS.  As teachers, we are also required to put the numbers of our TEKS on our lesson plans.

In our District, someone is always addressing the issues of legal and ethical issues of technology resources. We have in-service training that includes the technology issues and students must sign an agreement.

Each lesson plan incorporating technology must be on the appropriate student technology level. If not, the students become frustrated and the learning process fails.

In lesson plans, I try to link the material with some aspect of their life. Credit cards and banking laws apply to students in high school.

My lesson plans include the retrial of information from various sources. They are required to use the library, newspapers, magazines and internet in providing outside material to be used in lessons.

Students have access to various resources (dictionaries, glossaries) to help them with the meanings and pronunciations of words. These activities are interjected periodically in the lesson plan as the need arises.

At school, we keep attendance on a server, utilize e-mail and keep grades on a Grade Machine program.

Students are provided with handouts, which outline the criteria by which their project performance will be graded.

I identify my areas of weakness in the technology applications; try to improve them alone or with instructional assistance. Various mini-courses are offered on campus in a variety of technology skills.
