ATKBO Review
Horton (Jim Carrey) the elephant is a teacher in the jungle who is well liked and respectable by his jungle peers – except for perhaps Sour Kangaroo who isn’t slightly impressed with Horton. During one of his lessons he hears what seems to sound like a cry for help, after some searching he comes across a small speck and is adamant there’s someone or something in it and so he decides to speak to it. Members of the community feel concerned with his current odd behaviour none more so then Sour Kangaroo. As it happens Horton has been able to talk with the person in the speck and through his excitement has informed his friend Morton (Seth Rogen) and his students and soon every knows and are all in disbelief.
Horton is communicating through the speak via a rainpipe with the mayor of Whoville (Steve Carrell) who is lives on another world that has noticed tremors and fast days and nights all due to Horton carrying the speak. The mayor now is shock knowing his world is a very little one pleads with Horton to protect them and to find somewhere safe to be placed. The two agree on top of a mountain, so Horton gets ready to set off on his journey. Its not so simple however as Sour Kangaroo believes this game Horton is playing could affect his students as know one from the jungle has yet heard the speak except Horton. There will be challenges and danger ahead for Horton, will he reach the top of the mountain? and keep his promise to keep whoville protected?
With today’s current amazing CGI films the standard, animation alone is not enough the draw and win crowds. Storylines and likeable characters are the new secret formula. Horton wins with both, and with the amazing talents voicing our heroes it’s hard not to like film. Parents will welcome it due to its comedic stars, short time frame and its lite approach.
