Rupert Giles
Rupert Giles comes from a family of watchers-both his father and grandmother also served in that capacity-and he was told at age ten that he too would become one. He attended Oxford University, and eventually dropped out, choosing instead to dabble in the occult-he and five others summoned a demon called Eyghon to the earth. Only two of that group remain alive, him and Ethan Rayne. Giles has great knowledge of almost every demon and evil being it seems, and his skills in spellmaking have proven useful more than a few times. He was a the curator at a museum in England, possibly the British Museum, prior to being assigned by the Watchers to Buffy. Giles is presently the school librarian for Sunnydale High, and was given a great deal of flexibility to which books would be available. Aside from the late Jenny Calendar, his relationships have been strictly business, although lately he has been spending some time with Buffy's mom, but don't expect anything much. Giles has proven quite physically resilient, he has suffered many attacks upon himself and after Jenny's murder, he went after Angel with a burning torch. He always seems to have weapons lying around for combat against the undead, and he is constantly on the watch for Buffy and her friends. Giles is a major asset to the group and it would be hell without him. Giles is played by Anthony Stewart Head.
