LOCAL MIDWIFERY INFORMATION

Search for information on how to become a midwife. There are many different ways you can do that. Read the definitions on midwives; HOW TO BECOME A MIDWIFE. I have tried to explain how the midwives differ.

On this particular page I wanted to address "HOW TO BECOME A MIDWIFE LOCALLY". I am a "Licensed Midwife" (LM), a "Certified Childbirth Educator"(CCE), and a "Certified Professional Midiwife" (CPM).

To become licensed in Arizona certain requirements are needed and addressed in the law. The nice thing about our licensing requirements is that it has helped me to become "certified" nationally. This is really important. NARM had done an excellent job in getting national recognition for the midwife. Go to the NARM web site to get more information.

Our law requires knowledge in certain areas such as: Embryology, Pschology, Nutrition, etc. The routes on how to meet these requirements are: college, correspondence courses, workshops, etc.

Our law also requires apprenticeship. Apprenticeship allows you to acquire certain skill levels by working with a midwife. This is why it is important to interview the midwife you want to work with.

After you have finished your scholatic requirements and have demonstrated the skills needed to "practice" midwifery, it is required that you take a written test, (The NARM test is used), an oral test and a practical skill test.

I have listed the web page for the law and information regarding licencing on "MY FAVORITE LINKS" below. Our director's name is Dorothy Hanson. We have gone through a number of different changes in the last few years. Dorothy has only been with us for a short time, but she is really on the ball. I think that in the next few years Arizona will be right up there leading the way in Midwifery. Write me if you need individual questions answered. God Bless you on your journey of midwifery.
