Recently I was asked the question; "What makes a good club president?" My response was enthusiastic, but too general to be helpful.
More specific answers have been occurring each day since.
First, they attend training, It is one of the first signs that the person is going to seek to do a good job.
Second, they read the book. Officers receive a handbook covering their responsibilities and it is a solid resource for increasing one's awareness of Toastmasters, the organization, its policies, and programs.
Third: the officers who shine, those who are a joy to participate with, seem to take their office with gusto, enthusiasm, absorbing everything they can about Toastmasters, and take a fervently active stance towards improving the club's performance in behalf of its members and guests.
These first three steps speak volumes about officers -- the quality of their service and the value they will get out of handing a leadership role.
They accept responsibility of the well-being of the club as well as their office duties. They take the lead by being responsible.
It is a pleasure to be "caught-up" in the positive influence they spread in the club's activities.
TLI covers the first step --- officer training. The deadline for early registration is May 31st.
