Leadership in Action - June 15, 2000

Didn’t I See You in Galveston - - continued

This was Don's first Region Conference and he passes along some of his thoughts regarding the event and its people. - Glenn Pike, ED

It was an honor to be among so many distinguished Toastmasters leaders attending the Region III Conference, including Terry Daily, Immediate Past International President and Terry McCann, Executive Director.

I got a kick out of seeing our District 3 "Top Three", PJ, Virgina and Mike, emerge from intensive, "lock down" training sessions at the hands of chief drill instructor, Terry Daily. They looked a bit shell-shocked and were all shouting "Sir! Yes Sir!" over and over.

As one of the First Timers, I had a chance to don a mask and impersonate a 130 year old sailing ship... well, you had to be there. Not to be outdone, Kelli McDoulett and her fellow Region III outgoing District Governors serenaded us all with a rap song... don't quit your day job, folks.

The International Speech Contest speeches were outstanding! Elanna Donovan represented District 3 with an excellent speech reminding us that being different is alright and exhorting us to accept people for who they are.

I recommend the Regional conferences to all Toastmasters. You will have a ball! Next year, Regional will be in Denver. Where do I sign up?

Don Griffith
