Who is Third Eye Blind? Well if you don't know them by name you have proably
heard their song Semi-Charmed Life. It's being played everywhere- radio, MTV, Walmart...
Their music is in it's own category with sounds of rock, alternative, hip-hop; There's also a
bit of a rap feel in Semi-Charmed Life, a song that sounds so "pop"-ish you would never guess
it was about sex and speed addiction. This all stems from the different musical backrounds of
the band members. Third Eye Blind is a band from California and they're not new. They formed in
1995 and have always been popular with the club scene. Now they're at the height of popularity
(not that it will decline soon)having broken into mainstream music. Their music is genuinely
good. They have a style all their own with the rythmn of Arion and Brad and the signature
and exceptional guitar playing of Kevin. And Stephan can SING! Unlike some singers who sing
well with the band playing or the occasional singer who has a bad voice and just screams to
compensate, Stephan sounds great with the band and has the most beautifull voice accapella. About
the name Stephan says "I've always liked smartass names, like Camper Van Beethoven one of the
greatest unsung bands." Also he said the Third Eye is the imagination, a fantasy world. Our songs
are based in reality so- Third Eye Blind. And that is what makes their playing so intense
and emotional- the realism, the fact that this is it, real life, raw not glazed over or sugary-sweet.
Each person has one part of one song they really relate to and the music reaches down inside you
and pulls out your guts and makes you feel things you never thought you could.It's a roller coaster
of emotions, it lifts you up, slams you down and when it's done you're a mess but you feel better
because there's a kind of comfort in the music too.
