I first discovered the concept of co-creation through books about Findhorn when I was in my early 20s. "The Findhorn Garden," written by community members, was especially moving to me. I have been delighted to hear nature spirit voices from time to time. When I was truly tuned in I was privileged to have some contact with Pan, the ancient nature god.
Living in the desert offers some interesting challenges to planting and helping things to grow and thrive. Phoenix is located in the Sonoran desert, considered to be an “interior” desert. There are temperature extremes (highs of 110 degrees F in the summer and lows of near freezing with some periods of frost in the winter) throughout the year that make it difficult to introduce new plants to the environment.
A few years ago, I lived on a fairly large property for the Phoenix area -- a little more than an acre. I was looking forward to having a large piece of land to co-create with Spirit. I managed to landscape about a quarter of the property, then got very sick with allergies...mainly to grasses that grow here, but aren't native to here. I would spend the weekend outside gardening and would have a full-blown "head cold" by Monday morning. I would then be out sick from work for a day or two, then start to recover.
The physical metaphor for somehow not "belonging" in the desert hasn't escaped me. Also the importance of tuning in with whether a plant material really belongs here. If it does not, it certainly makes sense that the human and animal habitants will suffer in some way (allergies to non-native grasses and trees is very common in humans and, especially, dogs in Arizona).
In the summer of 1997, I bought a townhouse with two small garden spaces. I've been working on the inside of the house and needed to wait for some painting and repairs to be done on the exterior, before I could start digging and planting. I also am now ready to co-create some cooperative outdoor living spaces with nature spirits. It has been a few years, however, since I have been in conscious contact with this level of the spirit world. It's too hot (110 F) here to sit outside and meditate in the garden...with the intention of tuning into the voices of nature. But I am hoping to get some things in place so I can start preparing soil and planting when the temperatures drop.
Here are some written pieces of "conversations" with the devic realm: nature spirits and angels, often called “devas.” Silver Light and Tula'a are two angelic guides I often talk with.
Dear Silver Light,
I'm intrigued with the earth spirit connection you and Tula'a believe is coming for me. Can you tell me more about this connection?
Love, Kate
My Dear Kate,
The earth spirits have missed you in the garden and long for your return. There are many here to assist you in creating a special retreat for your body and soul. Walk around the area you call your yard and listen carefully. Clear your mind of other distractions, ask for guidance for tuning into the vibration of this place and listen for the answers. They are only waiting for you to ask. Spirits were with you when you selected flowers to plant. Other devas will help you select appropriate plants to enhance your, and their environment. The garden will help your healing...especially your heart. Do you need more, my Dear One?
Silver Light: Yes. In Phoenix it gets very hot in summer. What can I possibly plant that could survive the heat?
Dearest Kate,
You were receiving the answer even as you asked it. Yes! Mesquite and palo brea are excellent choices, as are Bird of Paradise and lantana. You could plan the koi pond you have dreamed of and planned in healing meditations. There is much that can be done, even in the desert heat.
Silver Light: What is the name/vibration of the earth deva you told me is one of my guides?
Kate, dearest, clear your mind and find the name. You have known it for many many years. Linnea, yes, that's right. Like the botanist/taxonomist who gained much knowledge about our world and shared it with the human vibration. Ask Linnea to guide you to other earth devas during your explorations for creative earth expressions.
Love, Silver Light, Tulaa and Linnea

Dear Ambrose,
Your name came to me as I was meditating. You vibrate with the color red and you told me that you are an earth spirit or deva. What is your message for me? Do we have a task together?
Love, Kate
Greetings Lightwalker!
Yes, I am Ambrose and I am of the earth. It is I who decomposes that which can be used by the earth and gives life support through soil and rock. I am the essence of earth. You have opened yourself to us, Lightwalker, which pleases us. We are embarking on a great adventure but you must join me where your feet will touch the earth directly. Clear your mind then walk slowly around the land where you live. Feel my energy move through your body.
Yes, you feel it now but it is stronger and my message clearer without manmade barriers. We are ready -- for there are others of my realm -- for your partnership with us. This is your destiny, Lightwalker. To connect with the earth and with the spirits who support it will serve you -- and us -- well in the coming changes. We are preparing for much change and will help you to serve other humans with what you learn. Because your vibrational connection is not particularly strong with us at this time, we would invite you to join us as the sun sets. Center yourself and project to us. We will greet you and welcome you.

Dear Pan,
I have seen you, felt you in my meditations lately. I believe it was you who comforted me when I said that I wanted to go home. I still feel blocked in my heart chakra. I remember seeing you and some of the nature spirits in a woodland, beckoning me to come visit. I want to stay. Why do I have to stay here? It's lonely here. I heard someone say that I can visit anytime I want and that maybe it was time for me to do this consciously. How do I do that? And what is going on with me? I was feeling really good yesterday but today I feel very unbalanced. Thank you for your help, Pan.
Your humble servant, Kate
Lightwalker,
Do ye see, feel how I fill the air, the space around you and above you? I am Pan. I am All that is within Nature. Why do you weep, Lightwalker? You have forgotten the joy that is in your midst, the abundance of life within and without, the crowd of spirits surrounding you, loving you. You are allowing certain vibrations to enter your being which are tipping the balance and causing you to feel strangely.
My subjects will surround you with their light when you visit Sedona. We await your arrival, Lightwalker. We will guide you to special places you will remember visiting before. This will help you to make the connection with your past. Yes, it is true, Lightwalker. There was once a time you walked with me as spirit, as one of us. This is what you long for deep within your soul. You chose the human experience for the variety of emotion you were puzzled about from this side. We are always here for you, Lightwalker. We are the faces of violets, the hands of the trees, the voice in the wind. Remember your nature essence, dearest, it is who you are. You are also of the stars, other planets, a multitude and myriad lifeforms. You will remember and it will all make sense in this human form. Open yourself and ask for the knowledge. It will be given to you easily. Heal yourself with us.
You have a deep longing that your stubbornness will not allow you to experience. Give in to what is only natural for you, Formenci. That was what you called yourself in the time of nature spiritual. This was a time long before the Atlantis incarnations. You are feeling the pull of this time now because it is the earth and my realm that will hasten your healing. Take heed to the one who uses my name. Amidst his pain there is much wisdom and strength. Leave what doesn't fit and take the rest, Lightwalker. And call on me when you are ready to walk with me. I will be by your side.
Almighty and wondrous Pan
