PARENTS OF LAWRENCE MARR SR
Michael and Margaret Marh, their son Thomas Marh, were born in 1600, in the town of Ballyshannon on Donegal Bay in the Province of Ulster, Ireland. His son, Patrick Marh, went to Scotland and settled near Lochgilphead, now called the Province or County of Argyle. He was a sheep grower and was quite wealthy by means of a grant from the Crown. He had a large tract of land. He married Hannah McDonald. Their daughter Mary Marh married John Erskine, who assumed her maiden name of Marh. He changed the spelling to Marr to correspond to the Scottish dialect. This John Erskine Marr was made Duke of Argyle and afterwards Earl of Mar. No sons. Their daughter, Helen Marr, married a second cousin, Henry Erskine. He also took the name of Marr. They had four sons. Richard, James, John and Henry. The first three - Richard, James and John - came to America around 1750 and settled in Maine, and also in Pennsylvania. Henry stayed in Scotland and married Rachel Goodnough. Henry and Rachel had two sons who were named Henry and Lawrence. Henry stayed in Scotland and Lawrence came to America and settled in New Jersey in 1730.
I received this from the first person who corresponded with me - I don't know where she received it. I have also corresponded briefly with a man who is related to Rachel Goodnough who includes my Lawrence Marr in his family tree. Would be greatly interested in mail that may come from the Goodnough line.
