PETER HEYLE

I received this information from a man whose last name was Low. Peter Hyler, a man of mystery. Few records have been found that gives any insight into the man's life. I have found few records and none of them tells where the man came from, who was his wife, or even a full list of his children. I know he had 4 children, but I have a feeling he may have had more.

The spelling of the family name has changed a number of times over the years. The following is a list of some of the recorded spellings:

Heyl
Heyler
Hyler
Heyle
Huyler
Hiler

Again, there may be other spellings and people, who changed the spelling of their name for some reason. In one census record I found a Jacob Hiler living with his son who spelled his last name Hiller.

Note: To date I have only found four (4) records in which Peturs Heyle name is found.

a. The first record was found in Munsell's History of Morris County (1882) page 269, (Montville and its vicinity were first settled by a few families probably about the year 1716. Prominent among those who first located in this neighborhood were the names of Hyler, Van Duyne, Miller and Parlaman. The Forefather of the Hylers was probably one Peter Hyler who came from Holland; He had sons Nicholas and Philip and daughters Mary and Elizabeth). It should be noted that Mary and Philip were Nicholas's children, not Peter's.
