NOTES

THIS IS A WRITE UP THAT MY GRANDMOTHER, AURA HILER MARR GAVE ME WHEN I WAS WORKING ON A FAMILY HISTORY PROJECT IN SCHOOL.

L.W. Stearns was born in Wayne County, NY on October 15, 1829. He moved to Michigan by oxen and covered wagon. From there, he moved to Lake City, Wabasha County in 1860.

On February 1864, he enlisted in the Eight Minnesota Company G and was discharged for disability on May 8th, 1865.

Sarah Reynolds became his wife on July 4, 1855, while living in Michigan and was the mother of nine children.

THIS IS A POEM LEANDER WALLACE STEARNS WROTE TO HIS WIFE ON THEIR 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

My darling, 'tis fifty years
Since you and I were wed.
We've traveled on mid joys and fears,
Since those loving words were said.

You've been to me, my darling wife.
An angel by my side:
You've helped me bear the cares of life,
And o'er its trials ride.

When fortune frowned, you more than friend,
My troubled heart did cheer.
You lifted half the burden then,
And helped me without fear.

From your loving, old Husband

THIS WAS WRITTEN BY CLARRIE ALMA STEARNS FOR HER PARENTS 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Oh, golden day, fit emblem thou
To crown the fifty years
Of golden thoughts of golden words.
Of golden smiles and tears.

No task too hard, no vigil long
That soothed the weary heart.
And many a cry was hushed in song.
Though tear drops oft would start

Such love, devotion and such care
From each to each was given.
A paradise this earthy home
It almost seems a heaven

Oh father, mother, do not think
Your love and care were vain.
You've spent yourselves in serving us,
May we ne'er cause you pain.

And when in yonder city bright
Your crown to you is given.
God grant a star for each of us,
May crown your joy in heaven
