Did You Know it's NOT Vegetarian

  • Red Dye 40, which is in almost anything red, is derived from cochineal. Cochineal is made from the Cochineal Insect (Dactylopius coccus). They are cactus feeding insects. The dye comes from boiling the bodies of the female.

  • For those lacto (ovo) vegetarians, some cheeses, sour creams, yougart, and buttermilk contain rennet, which comes from rennin. Rennet is used as a curdling and coagulating ingredient. Rennin is processed from the stomachs of unweaned calves. (NOTE: Some rennin comes from vegatables juices and extracts)

  • Gelatin is made from boiling up the tendons, bones, skins of animals. Gelatin is found in a lot of candy's, chewing gum, and dessert's.

  • Wine and beer are often not a suitable drink for vegetarians. Wine contains: gelatin, isinglass, different milk proteins (casein and potassium caseinate), and animal albumin. Beer contains isinglass.

  • Some condiments contain anchovies
