Ramallah, Palestinians (Reuter)- in the West Bank town of Ramallah
burned a U.S. flag and celebrated into the early hours of Monday after
Iran beat America 2-1 in a World Cup match on Sunday heavy with politics.
Young men waved the Iranian flag and chanted "Come see what Iran will do"
before crowding into coffee shops and bars in the town for the game
between the arch foes that was dubbed the "Mother of matches". A young man
continued,"I was born and raised in the U.S.A. but tonight I'm definitely
with Iran all the way. It's a political thing I'm sure," said one young man
after raising a glass with friends to celebrate an Iranian goal.

women and children gathered in Vali Asr square, tying up traffic, waving
flags and chanting: "Iran, Iran, Iran." Passing cars blew their horns in
time to the revellers' shouts, ignoring pleas from police to lower the
noise. "We won, we won, we deserved to win," said Nilufar, 17. "This is
the best day of my life."
