The
President of the United States is kidnapped by a group of highly
skilled mercenaries and it's up to Secret Service Agent Scot Harvath
to get POTUS back.
Way, way cool book. Harvath is a cool, capable dude. Ex-Navy SEAL,
ex-member of the U.S. Ski Team, with a never quit attitude. He's
stepping on toes, getting dumped on by certain superiors and even
gets framed for murder. But Scotty's got a bug up his butt to
find the President, and if that means doing it alone then so be
it.
Lots of great action scenes. The beginning is most humbus mcjumbus.
Scot has to dig himself out of an avalanche with the President's
injured daughter, while the mercs carry out their extra-ordinary
plan to kidnap the Prez. Scot gets involved in a shoot-out in
D.C., evades assassins in Switzerland and has to climb one of
the most harsh mountains in the world to track down his quarry.
The best thing is Harvath is not a superman-type hero. Despite
his ability and attitude, he possesses the usual human worries
and fears. And this guy also gets more ****ed up than John McLaine
did in DIE HARD. Hit by an avalanche, shot, beat up, dumped into
a freezing river.
Good story that moves well and some good suspense. Thor's debut
novel is a winner!
