Classic sci-fi this time as I just
wrapped up ENDER'S GAME by Orson Scott Card. In the future, Earth
has barely survived two invasions by a race only known as the
buggers. Now, in order to find a great military leader for the
next war, humanity is selecting exceptional children and putting
them through rigorous testing to see if one of them is the next
Alexander the Great. The story focuses on Ender Wiggin and everything
he goes through during this process.
Absolutely, unquestionably, no doubt-don't speak awesome book!!!!!
One of the best sci-fi novels ever!!!!! The personal journey by
Ender as he goes through the Battle School is phenomenal. The
more successful he is at war games, the more pressure the leaders
of the school put on him to see if he will break. At times, it
looks like he will. The inner conflict with Ender is so remarkable.
He goes through so many peaks and valleys. Enjoying the war games,
making friends, having those friends taken away, viewing the teachers
as the enemy instead of other training armies, battling his loneliness
and isolation, fighting off his desires to just go home to a dysfunctional
family (which includes a psychopathic brother) when the demands
of Battle School become too much. The progression of the story
is terrific. The dialogue is also outstanding. Most of the time
you forget the majority of the characters you see are children
ages 6-12, yet they talk like the cream of the crop from West
Point. The last 80 or so pages are filled with so many incredible
revelations you have to keep scooping your jaw off the floor.
Even if you're not big on science fiction, read this book. The
personal journey of Ender Wiggin will engross you.
