It has come to our attention that some of you are asking one of two questions about Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), either: "What's in it for me?", or,
"What are we doing to help others?"
Hopefully the following will answer these questions for you.
First: What can you get out of PTK?
If you received the latest information packet, you should have received a
pamphlet which lists "Benefits of Membership." These benefits include:
Recognition as a member of the largest, and one of the most dynamic, honor
societies in all higher education.
The PTK golden key pin (Presented to members at induction).
Embossed gold-foil certificate of membership.
Automatic nomination for the prestigious National Dean's List
biographical publication.
Automatic enrollment in the PTK transfer database.
Complimentary issue of 3.5 PLUS, the journal of the PTK
International Honor Society.
A one year's subscription to the "Golden Key" newsletter.
A wallet ID card.
Access to the PTK scholarship directory (included in 3.5 PLUS).
Other benefits as well.
PTK member opportunities include:
Eligibility to apply for $21 million in transfer scholarships reserved
exclusively for PTK members.
Potential for up to $60,000 in tuition scholarships to PTK honor institute.
Potential nomination for the Academic All-American Team who, along
with USA Today, have 20 cash awards totalling $50,000.
Potential to receive one of five $1,000 scholarships from the
National Dean's List.
Opportunity to attain regional and international recognition through
awards programs.
Eligibility to apply for ten Gustwhite Scholarships of $5,000 each.
Opportunity to attend PTK Leadership Development Programs as well as
regional and international conventions.
Opportunity to run for several offices, as well as vote for your
favorite officers to be.
Other opportunities as well.
Second: How can you help others through PTK?
SHOW UP TO MEETINGS AND PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES. At this time, the lack
of member interest, as well as funds, greatly hinders our ability to set many
community service projects. Your participation is greatly needed to maintain
PTK at optimal working condition; we are, however, hoping to get some new
ideas going soon, and your sugestions are very welcome!!! Phi Theta Kappa
also stands by its four Hallmarks: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and
Fellowship. To learn more about these hallmarks, please go to
The PTK Social
Hallmarks Page.
