On the move
and in the news

The International
Convention is coming
and it's in our
back yard!

Palm Desert might not want to be described as being In Arizona's back yard, but it is!
Not only that, but District 3's 1973 Outstanding Toastmaster and special friend to Arizona Toast-masters, Joel Weldon, will be the Golden Gavel recipient and speaker at the special Wednesday luncheon.

The 1989 convention will be held August 15-19 at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, only a few hours drive away. This is the closest inter-national convention since the one at San Diego in 1983. More than 100 District 3 Toastmasters attended that convention. Many are still talking about what a good time they had equal-opportunity vocational specialist with New Frontiers.
Jim Burr, DTM, Early Words, designed Phoenix Greyhound Park, featured in January 1989 Newsweek article.

Ellen '(aye, CTM, Park Central, owner of the Miracle Mile Deli, noted for opening a new branch of the deli at Camelview Plaza.

It's also a chance to stay at a first class resort when their rates are at their lowest ($76.00 for a single or a double, when the "in season" rates run in the neighborhood of $300.00, which is a very classy neighborhood indeed).

One of the newest in the area, on 400 landscaped acres with 14 lakes, the resort has two golf courses, tennis, pools, restaurants, lounges and deluxe oversize rooms, etc. etc. etc.
(For those who would prefer to enjoy the ambiance during the day with a bit more austerity at night, the Palms Desert/Palm Springs area has literally 100s of hotels and motels in all price ranges.)
It's compelling ... it's captiva-ting ... it's close! Convention Palm Desert 1989. Don't miss it.

Speak at your peak!
By Michael I. Mastrovito, ATM-B,
The Perryville Connection, Area W-l Governor

On the evening of January 25th when the Perryville Connection hosted its third annual Family night meeting, parents, wives, children and friends all had a chance to see their Toastmaster "speak at his peak." For many, this was their first opportunity to see their loved one in this new role.
Western Division Lt. Governor William Bristol, DTM, presented awards to staff members larry Terra and Tony Fiore for their assistance to the club and Dean Sehm, club sponsor, was made an Honorary Toastmaster for his ongoing dedicated service and commitment.
Visiting Area W-4 Governor Mary Lee Madison brought her mother, June Lyman, to her first Toastmasters meeting.

"Speak at your peak," all Perryville Connection members chant at the end of every meeting, and to "speak at your peak" has been a driving force to members over the last five years. As a result, the Perryville Connection has consistently produced top quality Toastmasters and top speakers.
Give the Perryville Connection a call and bring your club out for an enjoyable meeting with the Perryville family. This group has a proud heritage and can guarantee you a captive audience.
You can contact Education V.P. Mathew Archer, CTM, through club sponsor Dean Sehm at 935-9371, extension 1068. Do it today. You'll be glad you did.
