Magickal Tools
In Wicca or Traditional
Witchcraft,particularly Gardnerian
Wicca,there
are five essentials which are
prerequisites
required for the performance of a
successful
rite.They are as follows:
INTENTION:
You must know what it is you
will
and be unwavering in your determination.
PREPERATION:
You must be prepared and
possess
all of the needed materials before
beginning
a rite.
PURIFICATION:
You must avoid
anything
that
would cause mental or physical
disturbance in
you before or during a rite.
THE CIRCLE:
It is a good idea to cast a circle of
protection for al magickal work.Whether
it be an actual physical circle or a
invisioned sphere of light is up to your
best judgement
CONSECRATION:
All tools and ritual
materials used are to be consecrated to
their
magical
functions.
A Few Of The More Widely Used Tools:
- Athame: A black~handled ritual knife with a double~edged blade,used to cast magick circles and to store and direct energy during rituals.
- Bell: Use a consecrated bell as an alter tool to signal the beginning and/or close of a ritual or Sabbat.
- Besom: A straw broom used in some ceremonies such as Handfasting and the Sabbat of Imbolc.
- Bolline: A white~handled knife with a sharp blade used to harvest herbs,cut wooden wands,slice bread and carve magickal symbols into candles and talismans.
- Burin: A special engraving tool used to mark names and symbols ritually on athames,swords,bells and other magickal tools.
- Cauldron: A small,black,cast~iron pot used in ritual.Symbolically combines the influences of the four ancient elements,represents the womb of the Goddess,and is used for various purposes,including brewing potions,burning incense,and holding charcoal or herbs.
- Censer: A fireproof incense burner used in magickal rituals,and symbolic of the element Air.
- Familiar: A witches pet.In Medieval times the familiar was an attendant spirit that appeared in the form of a cat,toad,lizard,or other small animal to aid the witch in her practice of magick.
- Goblet: (Or Chalice) A sacred cup used to hold consecrated water or wine,and to symbolize the element of Water.
- Sword: Used for casting and banishing circles.It is usually associated with the element of Fire.
- Wand: Used for invocation.It is also often used to symbolize masculine sexual/creative energies.Assocated with the element of Air or Fire.
- Candles: Colors possess various meanings and powers,and are an important aspect of magick.It is a good idea to always involve at least one candle that is of a color corresponding to the correct energy vibrations and influences.This will enable you to focus more clearly and attain not only positive results,but powerful ones as well.
- Incense: This is an important part of the craft and magickally powerful in any form.(Powder,Cone,Stick).Incense is often used to symbolize the element of Fire.It is burned as an offering to the Goddess and the Horned God.Used to enhance any spell,and when combined with visualization,the simple act of burning incense becomes a powerful spell in itself.Different fragrances each possess magickal vibrations,and corresponding properties.
