It was not until Dr.Margaret Murray produced "The Witch Cult in Western Europe"in 1921,that anyone looked at Witchcraft with anything like an unbiased light.
The work seemed to indicate to her that,from studying the records of the trials of the Middle Ages,there was a definite,organized, PRE-Christian Religion,behind all of the Christian allegations.
The re-emergence began,in 1954 when Dr
Gerald
Gardener came to her side and said in
effect,
"What Dr.Murray has theorized is Quite
true.
Witchcraft was a religion and in fact
still
is.
"I know this because,I myself am
a
Witch."
He further explained, that while still
underground,the Craft was very much
alive.
Whatever,one's beliefs in the origin of Wicca,all Witches and would be Witches owe him a great debt for coming forward and speaking out for Witchcraft.
The Craft has come
a
long
way from it's humble beginnings.It has
grown
to become a world wide religion,legally
recognized.Wiccan rights are now
included in
the Chaplins Handbook recognized by the
United States Armed Services.
Which
has caused a few,great concern in recent
months.
It is also becoming quite common to see Pagan Festivals and Seminars in very public settings,as well as thousands of Pagan websites,publications,and Pagan owned and operated buinesses.More and More Witches,Wiccans,and Pagans of all sorts are emerging from the proverbial "Broom Closet"!!
