There are different rituals,different
Festivals,and even different names for
the Gods.I say DIFFERENT NAMES,not
DIFFERENT GODS.
In virtually all instances,the Ultimate
Deity was equated with both masculine
and feminine.. This is natural since
everywhere in nature is found
duality.Within the Craft,as we know
it,this duality is the God and a
Goddess.
The names of the deities vary depending
on locality and tradition. What name you
use for your deities is a matter of
personal preference.
In Saxon Witchcraft the name WODEN is
given to the God:in Gardnerain the name
CERNUNNOS is used.each Tradition uses
it's own name.Don't be afraid to use a
name you are comfortable with.A name is
only a name. The Gods know your talking
to them!
Now,the Goddess, on the other hand can
become quite complicated.She is also
called by many different names.Saxon
Tradition call her FREYA,BRIGID by some
Celts,RHEA is the Greek earth
Goddess.
The Goddess is also seen as the Triple
Goddess,having three different aspects
and three different names,usually
corresponding to the three lunar phases.
In her waxing phase, she is the maiden. In
her full moon phase, she is the mother,in
her waning moon phase, she is the crone
of wisdom,death and darkness.
Traditionally the Dark Half of the year
is associated with the God. The light
half of the year is associated with the
Goddess.However,both remain active
throughout the whole year,even though
deference may be given to one over the
other at certian times.
Both the God and Goddess are important
and should be equally revered.There
should be a balance. The God has feminine
aspects as well as masculine, and the
Goddess has masculine as well as
feminine.
