New Happenings
Short news added Nov. 27, 2001:
Ok - the auction is now posted up. we are auctioning off nearly 450 records to help raise money for our upcoming releases. For all the info on the auction click here.

Other Immediate news:
Sorry for a lack of updates to the webpage throughout October, Contravene was playing out of town shows every weekend in October soour schedule was really cramped. But, the catalog is updated now...got a few new things in - the newest Fallas 7" is such an amazing record so we're really stoked to have gotten copies of those in! We're going to be getting restocks of a lot of the stuff we're currently out of stock of really soon (Antiproduct LP, Axiom LP, etc..) as well as some other new stuff soon too so keep your eyes open for that.
We are going to be doing a pretty big auction to help raise money for our upcoming releases. We have all the stuff together and we will be posting it up for bid either this weekend or sometime next week. We will post an update to the webpage when the auction starts and make links to the auction available and all that stuff. We're going to be auctions off a couple hundred records....a lot of which are rare or hard to find stuff. The musical styles will be pretty broad, everything from grindcore to powerviolence, to peace punk to emo and some other stuff too. Check back here in the next couple days for more info.
In label news, we're having serious financial trouble, and it is, obviously, hindering us from getting our release out currently. We're doing the best we can with the resources that we have but it's currently not cutting it. Hence, the reason that we are holding anorther auction, so hopefully this will help out. Because of our financial status, the Riot/Clone 7" has had severe delays. We're working to get it out as soon as we possibly can, but it is currently still delayed. We're not sure where we stand as far as our other upcoming releases go. The Carol Ann/Noothgrush split 7" is most likely going to be released by Carol Ann themselves, as they want to get it out soon and we don't have the money to do so so we'll post more info on that once it's more concrete. I'm not sure what the status of the Confirmed Kill LP is, as we have not heard from them in quite a long time so that record might not be happening anymore. The international comp is going to cost a lot of money, so we're trying to figure out a solution to that as well. We will, hopefully, have a better idea of what direction things are going to head within the next month, so more info will be posted once we have a better idea of whats going on.

Other News:
Expect a lot of updating to the webpage soon, a new layout, updating the links sections (fixing broken links, removing dead links, adding new ones, etc.), adding up a bunch of new pictures, some new sound files, creating some new sections to the webpage, and there will be a lot more articles and protest reports added to the activism & information page as well. All of this takes time though so please be patient....with any luck this will all be done before the start of 2002!

(The writing below was written with an update we did over a year ago. Although i feel a lot of positive things have been happening within our local punk and activist scene (and abroad), i still feel there is a lot of things that are very self destructive and turn people away from getting involved in the punk community. That is why this writing is remaining up)
Many different things have been going on lately for us that have been very upsetting. We have been seeing a lot of instances lately where it seems as if the meaning and drive behind the punk movement is fading out and becoming more of a stagnant, self destructive fashion show. Punx stealing from each other, fucking eachother up, fucking eachother over so that they can get ahead, backstabbing one another, and the like all seem to be coming very common punk attitudes and ethics. Why this is happening is beyond me. Why a movement that is supposedd to be fighting back against a system based on self-centered idealologies and practices is suddenly turning to and embracing those same practices makes absolutely no sense. Why a movement that is said to be fighting back against the capitalist system would suddenly turn itself around and play by the exact same set of rules that capiitalism is based on makes no sense either. It seems as though the very core, the ethics and beliefs that are said to be so deeply rooted and ingrained in the punk movement, are becoming completely lost now and this is just becoming another breeding ground for self-centered, self serving bastards to use as a way to get themselves ahead.
The punk movement in itself has so much potential to make a real impact and make something positive happen for ALL of us. When you go to a festival and see over 1,000 people that have shown up, supposedly under a common goal of working for a positive future for all beings to live in, you realize that there is the potential for us to come together and make something happen. Something positive. Something real.
And then to see those people be more concerned with beating the fuck out of eachother, stealing from one another, and doing nothing more than fulfilling the media stereotype of what punks are all about, you have to wonder why it even exists.
Why hide behind lies of fighting back against an oppressive system based on superiority and degredation when our actions display the very same things that we're (supposedly) fighting back against? There is no room within the punk "movement" for tolerated racism, sexism, and homophobia (even if it is "just a joke"). There is no room for self destructive/defeating actions within a movement that is said to be working to create a positive change and community for all people. There is no room for hatred and backstabbing in a community that is said to be based on co-operation and communication. What there needs to be is a real sense of community. a real sense of family within this movement.
There needs to be something tangible, something real for all of us to work for. Something that we can all share in together. Something that is possible. Together we can make a difference but change isn't going to come from tolerating narrow minded and destructive ideas and people. It will only come through TRUE solidarity and support from one another. Together we can make a difference...if we really want to.

We would also like to take this time to say farewell to a close friend of ours, Mickey Dusing. Mickey's life was taken from him on August 19 and he will be sorely missed. He was one of the most genuine and loving people that we have ever known and we will never forget him, nor will all the other people who's lives he touched. We will miss you greatly friend. There will be a memorial page for Mickey coming soon. anyone interested in contributing anything to it please get in touch with us.
R.I.P.
