Each class will divide into teams. Each team will be given one egg. Using the materials designated in these rules, they will construct a structure ("crate") to protect the egg from breaking when dropped from a set height. The crate will be dropped free fall from a spot selected by the tournament director onto a cement slab or comparable noncompliant surface .

The object is to land and remain on the center of a designated target area without breaking the egg. Individual team scoring will be determined by measuring the distance from the farthest edge of the crate and the center of the target area. Ties may be broken by a run-off if time permits. A plumb line may be used when dropping the crate to line up with target. If the egg breaks, the team's score will be equal to the score of the lowest ranking team in their class.
Class score=sum of individual team scores/number of teams participating
A lower score is better!
