Kate Sherry
Main business, raise train and show Miniature horses. Secondary business is
equine sports massage.
I was a certified vet tech in California for 15 years. I moved to Oregon 9
years ago and got interested in Miniatures. Prior I had shown Quarter horses
and was in women's pro-rodeo for a few years. Miniatures are not quite as hard
as their big relatives so I set out to learn to care for them a little
differently. I picked up various information and thought that sports massage
might help these little guys. I took and was Certified by Don Doran 4 years
ago. At the time his course was the longest offered. After the course I did
indeed look at horses, all horses differently.
Currently I have several large horse clients and several miniature clients.
Over the past several years I have utilized a variety of things to aid the
massage work, including spending several months with a chiropractor learning
more equine anatomy, using accupressure and bio-electric stimulation, magnetic
therapies, and currently I am doing a lot of work with a soft tissue laser.
We have developed a special muscle conditioning program to be utilized by the
miniatures. Involving specific exercise routines, treadmill sessions,
swimming, flexion and stretching, chiropractic evaluations, magnetic and the
soft tissue laser therapy. We have horses from different parts of the country
entering the program prior to work, show or training. We are in the process
of developing a plan for a local vet to set up a rehab center for big horses.
I use a lot of herbal therapy and do expend a lot of energy... I am a
Dynamite, and Nikkon Rep. Future plans involve more education, hopefully the
addition of ultrasound and an advanced cluster probe laser.
I love sports massage and the more I do the more I enjoy it. I get great
pleasure to watch the change and know that I am helping these wonderful
animals look, feel, and perform better.
Current my website does not have much on massage. Shortly we will be devoting
a page to the new conditioning program with pictures and applications.
